When naive, 19 year old Isaak is brutally dumped by his arrogant boyfriend, Kyle, he's left lost and confused. As he walks home, pondering on his ex's parting words, he walks smack-bang into a post and is saved by an unbelievably attractive blonde...
"Maybe? What do you mean?" I chuckled nervously. Kyle laughed, shaking his head and glancing at the trees. "Kyle," I said, "you can't be serious."
He looked over at me. "Did you think this relationship was serious?" He asked.
I look away, biting my lip and taking a breath. The park was relatively empty, except for a few kids playing in the playground a fair way off, and a lone teen texting on her phone. A slight breeze rustled the trees above us. I scuffed the grass that grew beneath the park bench with my shoes. "I guess I thought you were different." I muttered.
He laughed harder this time. "Different? Do you even know what that means?" He stood up. "Isaak. It's you who needs to be different, not the men you sleep with."
"What do you mean?"
He leaned in to me, and my breath caught in my throat. He still makes me flustered, even though he's breaking up with me. "If you want a serious relationship, babe, you need to be more serious. You need to make your man know what you're looking for." He straightens up.
Is he really leaving me? I wondered. I couldn't believe it. There's no way, I thought, that he'd turn around now and walk away.
"Kyle..." I murmured.
"Don't start begging me." He chuckled again. "Isaak, honestly. Don't work yourself up over this! I'm not really breaking up with you. We weren't together in the first place." With a nonchalant shrug, he turned around and walked away.
I clenched my fists around the edge of my jacket, the metal zipper digging into my skin. I watched Kyle's back as he strolled down the path, my vision blurring from tears.
Oh boy, I thought, rubbing my eyes and sniffling. Stop crying Isaak.
I stood up and pushed my fists aggressively into my pockets. With one last glance at my now ex-boyfriend, I walked across the park.
One of the girls ran right in front of me, and I almost tripped over her. "Sorry!" I said as I regained my balance. She stopped and looked at me with wide eyes.
"Oopsie daisies!" She exclaimed. She looked closely at my eyes. "Are you okay?"
Is it that obvious? I smiled. "All good."
She smiled. "Well, whatever it is, I'm sure everything's going to be okay." She turned away and skipped back to her friends.
I stared at her for a minute, before realising I was acting like a creepy stalker. I paced down the path. Why did Kyle just do that? Is he joking? What does he mean 'I need to be more serious'? I was serious. Wasn't I?
I growled as a ran my hands through my hair, then let out an overdramatic sigh. I wondered vaguely how many people would hear me screaming in frustration. Another bench. I sat down with a thump. I felt bipolar – I was mad with fury just before, and then I felt like curling up into a ball and crying myself dry.
"Heyyyyyyyy!!!" Came a shout. I looked up just in time to see Jackie, who was unfortunately my best friend, slide into the chair next to me with an unnecessary flourish. "Hey friend! What's up? The sky, I know right?!" He burst out laughing as if he just said the most hilarious thing in the world and slapped his thigh energetically.
"Seriously Jackie?" I muttered. "Not funny."
"Heyyy friend. Are you crying?" He grabbed my shoulders and forced me to face him. Hey, he might act like a loony, but he's got some muscle on him. I rolled my eyes and sighed again. He frowned. "Oh. So, the real question is... what's down?"
I didn't answer.
"Is it your boyyyfriend?"
I closed my eyes.
"Sooo.... your ex-boyfriend?"
I opened my eyes. "Do you have a death wish, Jackie?" I growled. Because seriously. Touchy topic.
He laughed and let me go. I don't know why his constant humour never bothered me. "Okay, okay, friend. So, then it's only the ground that's down then." He winked at me and chuckled again. "Isaak darling, wake up. The world isn't over. Look, the birds are chirping and the children are laughing. Look at the bright side of things, friend, not the dreary things." He grinned. "And may I just say... I told you so! That Kyle was never the trustworthy type. He's a jerk. You should listen to me, friend."
"Whatever." I muttered, rubbing my leg. I knew what he said was true. He'd told me countless times not to trust Kyle, that he wasn't the one to be with. He'd dated and dumped so many guys, but for some reason I thought I was special. "Jackie, why can't I be happy and smart like you?" I whined.
"Jeez, don't be like me! Go ahead and be happy and smart, but for god's sake, don't be like me. There only needs to be one psycho, amazing, genius, arsehole like me in this world!"
Heyyyyy! Just a warning, this is my first bxb story I have ever written, so prepare to cringe majorly... Anyway, hope you enjoy my new story, and thanks for reading the first chapter!
