Isaak's P.O.V

Mekhi's first order as King, was that Colm must return the men to their positions, and leave the throne room in peace for a little while. Colm had bowed, not only to his younger King, but also to us. No one said a single word as he left with the men who used to answer to him.

"Why didn't you kill him?" Archer growled as soon as we were all alone.

Saga looked back at him, and allowed a smile to slip onto his lips. "What would be the fun in that?"

"You all must leave," Mekhi's voice received our immediate attention, "as I am unsure of how my men will take to you being here, still alive." He did not look at us, instead he was gazing at the throne with mild disgust, brushing his fingers against the leather of the arms.

"Mekhi..." breathed Ash.

Mekhi brought in a breath, slowly, calmingly. He looked at Ash. "Thank you, Ash, for allowing me to be your bodyguard for the past two years. However, I can no longer keep that position, as you would already have realised."

"So formal, King Mekhi." Saga piped in, his brown eyes hawk-like in nature.

"I am deeply apologetic for the death of that Wolf." Mekhi murmured.

"Her name is Willow," Archer snapped, causing Mekhi to fall silent for a moment.

"I... please forgive me," the new king breathed.

"It is not your place to apologise for her death," I said shakily, gazing at him, unsure, "you were not involved."

"I was!" He growled at me, "I was involved in all of this, can't you see that?" he strode towards me threateningly, "if I wasn't alive none of this would have happened. Colm's brother should be dead!" He spat.

"Leave him be, Isaak," Saga whispered next to me, as Mekhi returned to his throne, "he is hurting. He will be for a long time."

The King sat on the throne and looked away from us, mulling over his thoughts. "Let the Sahaan know I will send word soon, to set about a treaty of sorts. Until then, there will be a truce."

"I will," said Ash.

"Now go," the King ordered, "before I get my men to drag you away."

We nodded respectfully at him, and left the room, Willow in the arms of Archer. Saga took us all back to the secret passage way he had claimed to have built.

It was not long until we were beside the river. I remember we sat and rested by a tree for a moment.

"I will take Willow back to her family, not far from here," Archer told us, as he held her body against him, "she deserves a proper burial."

"Travel well," Ash murmured. "Stay safe."

The immortal nodded, the odd formalities foreign on their tongues. "Of course. You too."

"Archer?" Saga called, stopping Archer from standing. "I would like to see you again. I don't fancy being alone for much longer."

Archer nodded to Saga slowly, "I'm sure you'll find me."

Saga smiled softly at Archer as he lifted Willow into his arms again and set off.

"Shall we be on our way? I'll take you two to the border, and then I'm sure you'll be fine from there." The eccentric immortal jumped to his feet and offered Ash and I a hand to rise to our feet.

"That would be great." I told him.

It took four days to walk to the border, stopping every night to sleep next to each other, under the stars. Every moment seemed so surreal; was this really it? Was everything over so quickly? I hadn't the slightest clue what I would do from then on, where I would stay. I remembered Ash telling me some time ago that he would help me settle into this world, since I couldn't return home.

It was strange; Archer had told me that humans could not remember us when the couldn't see us, and now I think that perhaps I couldn't remember humans if I hadn't seen them for a while. The memories of my parents, of Jessica and Kyle and my human life were all fading to nothing. It was if I was starting a whole new life, as if my Earth life never existed and it terrified me. I should write it all down, I thought then, before I forget.

At the border, Saga left us, after ensuring that Ash could remember the way back to his home.

"Look after him, will you?" Saga asked Ash, giving me an almost teasing smile.

"I'll try," Ash responded, sending me a content glance, "as long as he doesn't try get himself killed."

"Since when have I tried to do that?" I playfully argued, "I thought it was you who tried to kill me originally, using magic on me like that."

Ash chuckled briefly, and we both noticed Saga had disappeared. "It's your fault walking into that pole," he muttered, beginning to walk down the faint path. I followed him, allowing myself to feel happy in that moment, despite all that had occurred. "What were you thinking about anyway?"

I frowned slightly, digging back into my memory. Kyle had just dumped me...

"Hands." I blurted, and Ash and I both burst into laughter.

Another five days of walking, stopping in towns for food, shelter and water, and we finally arrived at Ash's home town. I breathed a sigh of relief, of expectation and awe. Those first moments walking into this place were the most surreal yet. Even now, when I have lived here for a year, I still feel the same awe.

"Welcome home," Ash whispered to me, placing his hand in mine.
