Melody's POV
"So, I should expect you on the 14th?" Sean asked over the phone. I was at my laptop, figuring out the lowest price for my trip.
"Yes, Sean, I'll be at the airport in Brighton on July 14th. I'll be the one in the goddamn parka so you won't be able to miss me."
"But I miss you now, Clover!" He whined.
"And I miss you. Which is why we're planning our next meet up," I sighed. I did miss him. So goddamn much. The way his smile managed to light up an entire room, the way his eyes sparkled when he was excited, our cuddle session, his passion for his job... But I was still feeling pretty petty about his little stunt this past October. I had let the months go by, luring him into a false sense of security. He wouldn't know until I got there that the date on my screen for my plane ticket was July 13th, not July 14th. But this was his punishment. I imagined his cute, flustered face when he saw me and I giggled.
"What are you gigglin' at, Lupine?"
"My children, McLoughlin. They miss you too, by the way."
"Awww, I miss them too. Set up a video chat later with them?"
"Sure, shoot me a text when you're ready and I'll get them. They'll be so excited."
"Not too excited, I hope."
"I'm hanging up now," I said deadpanning.
"Nuuuuu, I'm sorry! Please don't hang up!"
"Never talk about my children and sex in the same sentence ever again or I swear I will dump you as publicly as I can."
"I'm sowwy. Pwease forgive me?" He asked in a baby voice.
"Give me one reason to forgive you."
"How about that I love you more than I love Mark. And I proposed to him."
"Oh my Gods," I laughed, remembering that whole fiasco.
"I'm still hurt about that, by the way. It really hurt my pride. I don't think I'll ever get over the pain that he caused me when he rejected me. I don't think I'd survive if you rejected my love too!"
"You do know that that counts as emotional abuse, right? Like, I could file charges for abuse on you."
"Oh shit, really?"
"Yeah."
"Shit, I'm sorry. It was meant to be a joke."
"You will be forgiven this one time. But do it again and I'm serious. I will leave you. I have been put through enough emotional abuse in my lifetime," I said, remembering all the pain and suffering I'd gone through at the hands of others I thought I could trust.
"I'm so sorry, Melody. I'll be more careful with what I say. Can you forgive me?"
"I just said I would this time. Relax, we're good. Oop, I think Roxy wants to say hello," I said, looking down at the excited Pitbull.
"What are you waiting for? Put her on, dammit!" I chuckled, putting the phone to Roxy's mouth, who proceeded to bark several times, happy to hear her Daddy's voice.
"Awww, I miss you too, Pumpkin! I'll see you next month ok? I promise," I heard Sean say once Roxy finished her rant.
"I have to go let the dogs out and ingest some nutrients, but video chat later?" I asked, taking the phone back.
"Of course! I'll talk to you later, Clover. I love you."
"Love you too, Shamrock. Bye," I said hanging up the phone. I couldn't wait until July.
Timeskip
Melody's POV
I grinned at myself, double checking my bags. Yup, I have everything. The time had come for me to exact my revenge on Sean, showing up a whole day early. It wasn't a drastic change, but he still wouldn't be expecting me.
I shot a text to Emma, reminding her that she'd need to at least feed and water my animals, and let them go to the bathroom. I searched my house, telling each animal that I was leaving before putting my bags in the car and heading for the airport.
After several hours and a text to Sean that I'd be taking a nap so it was best he didn't text me, I arrived at the airport. I smiled to myself, loving how petty I was being. I ordered an uber and got in, on the last leg of my journey to surprise Sean. I paid the driver and got my stuff, hiding it out of the line of sight of the door. And then I knocked. I grinned, situating myself to lean on the doorway like cool kids do in the movies. Sean opened the door, confused and I spoke.
"Long time, no see, stranger."
"Melody?!" He asked, pure happiness all over his face. It wasn't quite the flustered look I wanted, but it was still adorable in its own right.
"Hey, baby," I winked before dropping my facade and laughing.
"I thought you weren't coming until tomorrow?"
"Well, after your stunt last month, I wanted a stunt of my own. So here I am, a day early."
"I should have expected this, shouldn't I?" He asked, annoyed with himself.
"Yes, you should have. But I take it you didn't?"
"No, I didn't. Now come in," He laughed, moving so I could get my stuff inside.
"Forever a light packer, huh?"
"It's less likely I'll forget something this way!" I whined. He knew I had a thing about losing my stuff and he used it against me anyway.
"Baby, relax. I'm teasing."
"It's still mean," I pouted, trying to make him feel guilty. It worked.
"I'm sorry," He said, wrapping his arms around me protectively and hold me tight. I grinned, knowing that I had been successful in securing one of his warm, inviting hugs within five minutes of seeing him. I knew I could have asked for one and gotten one quicker, but where's the fun in that?
His hands lingered on my hips for a while after we broke our hug as he placed his forehead on mine.
"You have no idea how much I missed you, Clover," He whispered and I giggled.
"You can't have missed me more than I missed you, Shamrock," I whispered back.
"Is everything a competition with you?"
"I thought you liked my competitive side," I pouted.
"I didn't say I didn't. I'm just asking because I want to know if I'll win this," He said, crashing his lips to mine. This is what was missing~.
