Melody's POV

I didn't know whether I should be mad at Sean or not. On one hand, he wanted to surprise me on my birthday, on the other he had decided to meet my parents without me warning them. Or me. Oh well, it's too late now. I glance at my mom who gives me a look. While I had told them I was seeing someone, I had never told them who I was seeing.

"Hey, Mel?" Sean asked.

"Hm?"

"Wanna show me where you grew up?"

"That's like two towns over... but sure, if you want me too."

"Good luck going through Thomaston," My mom snorted.

"Thanks, mom. I really appreciate it. That's super helpful," I told her, my voice drenched in sarcasm. She just laughed and I grinned. To an outsider, it may have seemed rude of me to say, but my mom and I were close and usually communicated through sarcasm, so this was normal for us.

"Make sure you visit again soon, ok?" Mom said hugging me goodbye.

"Well see. I'm all famous and shit. Gotta keep the people happy."

"You have an alias. Nobody knows 'Melody Lupine' even though that's not your real name," Viktorya scoffed and I glared at her.

"It became my name legally after I moved out. So yes, it is my real name. But you're just pissed your nickname rhymes with Diarrhea," I shot back and she was too stunned to comment back. She hadn't expected me to go full force with Sean right next to me.

"Go, Mel!" Dad laughed, pumping his fist in the air and my mom glared at him.

"Later dad. Actually respond to my texts, next time, ok?"

"No promises," Mom jeered.

"Nice meeting you all," Sean said as we left. "What was that?" He asked after we got in the car.

"I live by the code, 'treat others the same way they treat you'. She treats me like shit so I treat her like shit. She doesn't get to be an ass to me and expect me to not retaliate. Sorry if it made you uncomfortable though."

"It's fine, it's just when you said you could destroy people with your words, I didn't realize how serious you were. Damn, that was savage."

"You don't know the half of it..." I chuckled.

"How old is she?" Sean asked.

"She turned 19 the day after Halloween. She still acts two though. She's had like, a million abortions and refuses any kind of birth control. She's the ultimate Queen Bee even though she barely graduated last year. I didn't go. She didn't want me there and I didn't want to be there. So there's that..."

"Not a very good relationship?" Sean asked, understanding.

"Not in the slightest. I have a better relationship with my half-sister that I've only ever talked to on Facebook."

"Oh wow."

"Anyway... why'd you want me to show you my hometown?"

"You never talk about it, and I got curious. I wanna see your roots."

"You are the sweetest... Have I ever told you that?"

"A few times, yeah," He smiled that heart-wrenching, adorable smile and I felt my heart skip a beat or ten. We arrived and I pulled into the surprisingly snowless beach parking lot. Considering it was February, we were the only ones here, but I didn't mind. My whole soul was home. I had my boyfriend in the town I was raised in up until my tween years. I couldn't be more at home.

"So, Melody, I wanted to talk to you about something..." Sean started, seeming nervous.

"What's up?" I asked, worried something was wrong.

"I was wondering... if you'd maybe..."

"Spit it out, Sean."

"Would you maybe want to move in with me..?" He asked and I blinked in surprise.

"Sean, I..."

"I know you said you'd only leave Maine for someone you really love, but things are going so well and I just... I had to ask..."

"I'd love too, Sean..."

"But..?"

"I have meetings and book tours and other business stuff here... I'd have to come back every now and again... but I'll try and work it out with my publisher... I really do want to move in with you," I told him, hoping he'd see the sincerity in my eyes.

"That's all I can ask..." He smiled before pulling me in for a kiss.

On Sean's Birthday

Melody's POV

I was giddy. I had managed to work it out with my publisher so that I'd only need to have meetings with him in person four times a year, and the rest of the time I could just email him. I was in the clear to move to Brighton with Sean. And I couldn't wait to tell him.

"Ohh, Seeean~," I called, giggling.

"What's got you in a good mood?" He asked as I joined him on the couch.

"Well it's your birthday for one," I grinned.

"Yeah, but the shit-eating grin on your face tells me there's something else going on, so what is it?" He chuckled.

"I may have worked out the logistics so that I... can move in with you," I told him, putting a hand on his chest.

"You're serious?" Sean asked, surprised.

"Yes. Happy birthday, baby," I whispered, kissing him.

"Best birthday present ever," He whispered against my lips once we broke apart.

"I've known for a few days but I wanted to tell you today."

"So I guess you didn't get me anything for my birthday, huh?" He smirked.

"I did... but you'll get it tonight."

"Oooh, is that so?"

"Uh huh. But should I keep some Tums on the bedside table, old man?" I grinned before running away, Sean hot on my heals. He caught me and we tumbled to the floor.

"You are going to be the death of me, Melody Luna Lupine," He growled playfully, pinning my hands above my head.

"What did I do?" I asked, feigning my innocence.

"You know exactly what you did."

"Sorry, Daddy..."

"You're so getting it tonight," He growled before kissing me roughly. Tonight's going to be a good night.
