Sean's POV
The past month with Melody had been awesome. She had come to mine in the middle of September and we had a blast just being together again. But now it was my turn to go back to hers and since we had yet to plan a schedule for when we'd come see each other and since I missed her so much, I decided to surprise her. She had no idea I was in an Uber, heading to her house. I decided to video call her once I was about five minutes from her house.
"Hey, baby, what's up?" She asked, answering the call.
"Not much. Guess where I am?" I asked, so excited.
"Looks like you're in a car. Where ya goin'?" It made my heart melt every time she used her accent, and I knew she made sure to through it in every now and again for me.
"You won't believe me," I grinned.
"Try me, McLoughlin."
"Hold on." I paid the driver, got my stuff, hiding it from the camera so Mel couldn't see. I walked up to her front door and knocked.
"Sean, are at my house?" She asked, her eyes lighting up.
"Mayyybe..."
"Oh my fucking God. Give me two seconds and I'll let you in," She laughed, flying out of bed. I chuckled as I ended the call. She opened the door and tackled me in a hug, holding me tight.
"I missed you," She mumbled into my shoulder.
"I missed you more. Now, can we head in? While it's a very nice October night, I really don't like having my stuff out in the open."
"Yes, come in," She said letting me go and stepping out of the way, allowing for me to bring my stuff in.
"Put it in the guest room, but don't worry, you'll be sleeping with me," She teased.
"Whew, I thought you were mad at me," I said sarcastically.
"You are far more sarcastic now than when I first met you."
"We talk a lot," I shrugged.
"I guess so. And by the way, you're lucky Roxy was in the dog's room."
"I noticed she didn't tackle me. I was wondering where she was."
"Go get settled and then you get to deal with both her and I attacking you with love," She smiled.
"Yes ma'am," I said before heading up to the guest room, my things in tow. I unpacked fast, eager for Melody and Roxy to tackle me. I headed back downstairs only finding K-9 on the couch. He lifted his head, looking at me.
"You're such a good boy," I said, and he started wagging his tail but he didn't move.
"Get 'em, Rox!" Melody yelled from behind me and Roxy obeyed, sending me to the floor and covering me with doggy kisses. Melody laughed, laying next to me on the floor, clinging on me. After a few minutes, Roxy stopped licking me and just laid down on top of me instead.
"She missed her daddy," Melody said, still holding on to me.
"She did, did she?" I asked, scratching behind the pitbull's ears.
"Yeah, she did."
"And what about her momma?"
"Of course I missed you. Talking to you is the highlight of my day."
"Hey, Melody?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you. You know that, right? You know I'm in love with you, right?"
"Yeah, I know you love me... Hey Sean?"
"Hm?"
"I love you too."
"Melody, can we please get this dog off of me?"
"Roxy, down." Miraculously, she hopped off of me.
"Should we get up?"
"I should probably let the dogs out, yeah?" Melody said before groaning as she sat up. "Let's go, you two," She said to her dogs before leading them to the kitchen and out to the yard. I followed her and we sat on the deck while the dogs did what they needed to do.
"Are you going to do this every other month? Surprise me with when you're coming down?" Melody asked, leaning on my shoulder. I pulled her into my lap, loving having her there.
"I might every now and again. Why?"
"Because as fun as it was this time, if I expect it it's going to make my anxiety skyrocket."
"You'll never see me comin'," I said, holding her just a bit tighter.
"If you say so. Hey Sean? I love doing this with you."
"Doing what, exactly?"
"Sitting in your lap with your arms around me, on my deck, watching the dogs play."
"I love doing this too. Hey, how's your new book coming?" I asked.
"Slowly, but surely. I might have to take a couple day break before attempting to tackle it again. I burning out, babe."
"That's because all you do all day, every day is write. Take a break once and a while."
"Yes, dad."
"I worry about you, ya'know. I can tell when you're not feelin' up to par. It's evident in your texts."
"It is? Shit, I thought I was hiding it well," She cursed.
"Maybe to someone you don't talk to daily. But we do talk every day and I can tell how you feel day to day."
"Yer a wizard Sean," She said before laughing.
"You're weird. Hey, have you spoken with Mark lately?" I asked, chuckling.
"No, he's been busy. It's not a huge thing, we have one of those friendships where we don't have to talk for months but hen we do, we pick up where we left off. It's awesome."
"Mark's just that kind of person; he's easy to talk to," I agreed.
"So are you. You know more about me than anyone else. Not even my own mother knows me as well as you do. She used to though," Melody said, starting to reminisce.
"Speaking of parents, when am I meeting yours?"
"When you have a deathwish or a longing for awkward conversations. I expect you won't understand like half of what my mother says to me. We have like a secret language. It takes a while to decode."
"I'm up for the challenge," I laughed.
"I'll bring you up to meet them soon, ok?"
"Promise?" I asked.
"Promise," She agreed and we locked pinkies. God, I missed being with her. It's gonna be a good week.
