Time skip to July 2
Melody's POV
I couldn't believe it had been a year since Dante was born. A whole 0.3% chance I'd get pregnant and here we were, a year since I met my little boy.
"Has it really been a year since Dante was born?" Sean asked as we laid in bed, my head on his chest.
"Yes. I can't believe it either. It seems like we brought him home a week ago," I smiled fondly at the memory.
"He's getting so big."
"And loud," I smirked before surprising my husband with a kiss. "Now come on, we have a son to wake up and a party to prepare for." I rolled off of Sean and made my way to the nursery. I wasn't surprised to see Dante sitting up in his crib, babbling to himself.
"Well, good morning handsome! Are you ready for your bottle?" I asked, picking up the toddler. He squealed with joy and we made our way to the kitchen where I set him in his highchair while I heated up his bottle.
"Melody, the man's a year old now, give him a Guinness with breakfast," Sean said, entering the kitchen.
"Sean McLoughlin, you give our son a drink before he is sixteen and I'll skin you alive. And that's a promise," I said, giving Dante the warm bottle of breastmilk.
"Mama's feisty this morning, huh Bud?" Sean whispered to the little boy and I glared at him. "Well, Mama is the boss and what she says, goes. Sorry, Buddy, I tried to get you a drink." Sean shook his head in defeat and Dante giggled.
"Mama!" Dante giggled, reaching for me. Sean and I stopped what we were doing and looked at each other, wide-eyed.
"His first word..." Sean whispered.
"Told you he loves me more," I smirked.
"Mama!" Dante repeated and I walked over to him.
"Yes, Bubba?"
"Mama!" He giggled, putting his tiny baby hand on my face.
"That's right, I'm Mama. Who that?" I asked pointing at Sean.
"Dada."
"That right! What a smart boy you are!" I praised, picking him out of his chair and spinning him around. He giggled and I put him back in his chair.
"You love Dada too, huh?"
"Mama!" Dante giggled and Sean face palmed.
Timeskip to the Party
Melody's POV
After everyone had arrived for Dante's party, we spent hours just talking, telling stories, eating and enjoying each other's company. There was a round of applause the first time everyone heard Dante say 'mama' for the first time and I had the joy of informing everyone that he had said it earlier today. Mark just about exploded when he heard that, thrilled that Dante reaching two milestones in one day, "just like his Uncle Markimoo".
About halfway through, Sean brought out the vanilla Winnie the Pooh shaped cake with the lit candle on his nose.
"Blow out PoohBear's nose, Dante," I smiled and together we blew it out. Several laughs and an entire cake later (some pieces miraculously ended up to the dogs), Dante was opening his presents, overjoyed to be tearing thin paper of his prizes. After every gist he opened, Dante would call for me, showing me his conquest of the evil paper hiding his gift. A couple of times, he got Sean's attention which made his whole fucking day. He got a shit-eating grin on his face the first time, and every time after, his smile got bigger until I thought his face would break. I called him out on it and he shot me a playful glare until Dante scolded him.
"Dada!" He said, his tiny face contorted with anger. "Mama," He said, patting my face. He planted a kiss on my cheek and everyone laughed, finding it hilarious that Dante would yell at his dad for his Mama. Eventually, the party wound down and people started leaving. Sean took Dante and the two of them started playing with Dante's presents while I put the dogs outside and started cleaning up.
"Melody, leave it," Sean told me.
"I'm almost done. It doesn't take long," I told him, finishing cleaning the place up. Once I had everything in tip-top shape, I sat on the other side of my toddler who was more than happy to show me his toy. It made me so happy to see my son growing up so happy. I just wanted him to always be that happy, even though I knew that there would be times in his hopefully long life that would be less-than-par. But for now, I was happy playing with little toy cars with him and my husband. We could handle the future as long as we had each other.
Timeskip to Bedtime
Melody's POV
"Goodnight, Bubba. Sleep well," I said, tucking Dante in and kissing his forehead before closing the door to let him sleep.
"It still hasn't sunk in that our son is a year old," Sean said as I entered our room.
"I know. One year down, seventeen to go. I dunno how we're going to make it."
"Oh, please. He's a total Mama's boy. You'll be fine. I, on the other hand, have to deal with his rejections."
"He loves you too Sean," I chuckled, laying beside him.
"Not as much as he loves you."
"He did come out of my vagina. A bond comes from that kinda thing, you know?"
"Yeah, but I tried getting him a beer this morning. Like bros, ya'know?"
"Whatever you say, babe."
"In all seriousness, this past year with the two of you has been amazing and I can't wait for the next seventeen years. I can't wait to raise our son with you, Clover."
"Shamrock, there is no one else I'd rather raise a baby with. So thank you for giving him to me."
"My pleasure, my love," He winked and I slapped his arm.
"You couldn't be serious for two seconds could you?"
"Nope. But you know you love me," He grinned and I sighed before kissing him.
"I really do," I said when air became a necessity. I smiled, looking at his face, remembering everything we had been through together before kissing him one last time.
