You watch the clock in the corner of your computer screen, pleading with it to make the minutes go by faster. It's been a long day and you want nothing more than to get out of the office. You love your job but today's been dragging on since you came in and it's just time to go. Finally the clock strikes six and you grab your things as quickly as you can. As you get your car, you make sure your phone is hooked up. You pull out of your parking space you instruct the car to call Asher. You her talking, the clinking of glass and breathing laughs in the background. Asher laughs and you smile imaging his face.
"Hey baby," he right chuckles. "What's up?"
"Hey." You pull out on the street and start your usual route home. "I just got off work, looks like I'll be able to make it to you gallery show after all."
"Really?" he asks in an elevated tone. "What happened? I thought you had alot of paperwork to do tonight."
"Nothing, I pushed it off. I can do it tomorrow when I get in." You shift in your seat as you turn on the block right before yours. "I'll be late but I can make it before it's over. You said your presentation is toward the end right?"
"Y--yeah. Um...yeah, it is. What time do you think you'll be here?"
"A hour or so tops."
"Ok, see you soon, I'll pour a glass of wine for you." You smile at this and make your way upstairs to your apartment. You grab a dress to wear, refresh your makeup and let your hair down. You apply a little product to refresh it and then your grab your favorite pair of strapp-y heels. You hop back into your car and decide to take the local way tot he gallery to avoid possible traffic but as you get a few streets into your route, the street clog the bottle neck and even your quick course diversions don't seem to help you get away. You redial Ashers number.
"Baby? You on your way? They're about to ask be to start."
"I um...I got stuck in traffic. I'm not sure I'll make it at the rate I'm moving at now."
"It's alright, don't worry about it. I have another one coming up in a couple weeks. You can go to that one," he sighs a little and you feel a tiny seed of guilt sink in your chest.
"I'm sorry."
"Baby, it's ok. Don't worry about it. Head home, have a good night, we can go out for breakfast tomorrow morning, ok?"
"Ok," you reply. " You run your fingers through your hair, turn around and head back home. Instead of cooking your having leftovers you order food and eat it over two episodes of your latest show.
