Why did it have to be to walk in out of everyone? I swear I just have bad luck all year 'round. Did I do something to get a lifetime of bad luck that I don't know 'bout?
I shove my shirt down but it's too late, he's already seen it.
"What're you doing?" I half-heartedly scold him.
His dull eyes that look like mine don't leave mine. It almost feels like I'm looking into my own eyes in a mirror; even I'm ashamed of what I just let happen.
"Are you gonna tell him?"
His voice's so strong and low it sends shivers down my spine, or maybe that's just from knowing what he's implying.
I'm actually surprised he didn't straight up ask me how I got the bruise, but I think he already has a pretty good idea about at least who gave it to me.
I contemplate playing the denial card, but he's too smart for that, though. He may be quiet and keep to himself most of the time, but I see him watching everyone and everything that's going on.
Ignore how creepy that sounded.
"How much did you hear?" I counter his question with my own.
He raises his eyebrow unimpressed but answers, nonetheless. "Enough to know you got a past and the she-devil knows about it."
He walks in and shuts the bathroom door so we have some sort of privacy.
I sigh, "Hayden, it's not that easy".
My hands wrap around the basin and I clutch tightly, trying to steady myself. Everything's starting to spin, and the weight of the situation is setting in more.
Alex has the information she needs to manipulate me to do whatever she wants. No one was supposed to hear about what happened and I don't even know how she found out.
I take deep breaths in and out, counting each one in my head.
In...out...in...out...in-
Acid burns my throat and threatens to come back up. Hauling myself to the stall I had just come out of, more bile pours into the porcelain bowl.
Tears sting my eyes as my gag reflex kicks in. I hear Hayden sigh and his footsteps coming into the cubicle. He rubs my back gently as everything in my stomach launches into the toilet.
Once I'm done for the second time, I feel absolutely drained and Hayden ends up helping me stand again and brings me over to the sink. He stands supporting me with his hands on my waist to keep me standing.
The door opens again, and two girls walk in. I swear if it was Xavier I would've just bolt out of school and pick up and leave. It was worse enough having Hayden witness what happened and having to explain what happened to Xavier isn't something I was prepared for. That would mean opening up about more than just what Alex likes to do in her free time apart from buying clothes from the kids' section and halving them again.
