[Rick]

I step out of the trailer when I see that Ash has fallen asleep. I get in the car with Lori and Carl and we drive away, leaving Jim up against the tree.

We hear the gunshot and we all jump, but I keep driving along with the others.

I'm really worried about Ash. She is really sick and we have no idea what she has. I'm hoping the CDC will help her. They'll know what to do. They specialize in illnesses and diseases. They can cure her of whatever she has.

But still. I'm worried that we won't get there in time. She is such a sweet girl and she has definitely grown on me. She's like the daughter I never had.

She continued to give me hope that I will find Lori and Carl. I had just met her and she was willing to throw away her life to save mine.

I just hate to see her sick like this. She said she was getting sick before she met me. She didn't look sick. She didn't act sick. But she definitely is sick.

I hope whatever caused the outbreak isn't what she has. I don't think I'll be able to handle watching her die and turn.

I know I haven't known her long, but she is the third person I met since I woke up. She means a lot to me, like she truly is my daughter.

We stop in front of the CDC and everyone gets out. There's dead corpses everywhere.

"Alright everybody, keep moving. Go on. Stay quiet. Let's go." Shane whispers to everyone and I look back to see T-Dog carrying Ash. I nod to him, which he nods back, and we keep moving to the front doors.

"Okay, keep moving. Stay together. Keep moving. Come on." I tell everyone as they cough and cover their nose and mouths to keep the stench out, it doesn't work.

"Shh." Shane shushes them and we keep moving. We make it to the door. Me and Shane start trying to open the metal door. Shane continues to pound on it as I back up and look around.

"There's nobody here." T-Dog says worriedly and I look over to him to see Ash panting heavily. She needs a doctor right now.

"Then why are these shutters down?" I ask, trying to convince them and myself that there is people inside.

"Walkers!" Daryl calls and we turn quickly to see walkers coming up to us.

"Baby, come on!" Lori calls to Carl and pulls him closer.

Daryl shoots the closest walker and then turns to me. "You led us into a graveyard!" He screams at me.

"He made a call." Shane defends me.

"It was the wrong damn call!" Daryl shouts.

"Just shut up. You hear me? Shut up! Shut up!" Shane yells at him as he pushes him back. He then turns to me. "Rick, this is a dead end." He says.

"What are we gonna do? Where are we gonna go?" Carol panics.

"Do you hear me? No blame." Shane tells me pointing at my face as I run my hand down my face. This is my fault. Ash...

"She's right. We can't be this close to the city after dark." Lori says to me.

"Fort Benning, Rick- still an option." Shane says as I look back at the door.

"On what? No food, no fuel. That's a hundred miles. Look at her-she won't last it." Lori says and I glance back at Ash. She's right.

"123, I checked the map." Glenn says.

"Forget Fort Benning. We need answers tonight, now." Lori says.

"We'll think of something." I try to calm everyone down.

Everyone starts panicking and going back for the cars. I look up as I hear whirring and see the camera move. "The camera-it moved." I tell them.

"You imagined it." Dale says behind me.

"It moved. It moved." I say as I walk up to the camera.

"Rick, it's dead, man. It's an automated device. It's gears, man. They're just winding down. Now come on, man." Shane tells me as he pushes me back towards the cars.

I push him off and walk back up to the camera. "Man, just listen to me. Look around, this place is dead, man. It's dead, okay? It's dead.  You need to let it go Rick!" Shane keeps trying to pull me back but I push forward and stare at the camera.

I bang on the door and then look up at the camera again. "I know you're in there. I know you can hear me. Please, we're desperate." I tell them as Shane starts screaming for everyone to get back to the cars.

"Please help us. We have women, children, no food. Hardly any gas left." I tell them.

Lori runs up beside me. "Rick. There's nobody here." She tells me but I ignore her and the screams and shots being fired behind me.

"We have nowhere else to go. We have a sick child out here. She can't walk. If you don't let us in, you're killing her! You're killing us! Please!" I exclaim as I bang on the door again.

Shane starts pulling me back. "Come on, buddy. Let's go. Let's go."

"Please help us!" I exclaim at the camera and the people behind it. "You're killing us! You're killing us! You're killing us!" I exclaim as I turn and start going with the others.

There's a clang behind us and I turn slowly to see the door open and light shining out onto the pavement. I knew it. I knew there was people inside. Now, we can get Ash the help she needs. We can get everyone inside and safe. Now, we can have some food to feed the children. Now, we can survive.
