After Ash had declared she wanted to continue being blind, Alex thought of an idea. She would nake her some glasses and when the time was right, she could put them on when she wanted to. Ash agreed and was sent to her new living quarters by Martinez.
She wondered where Merle was but she shouldn't be bothered. He chose these people over her. The person he grew up with and protected. She didn't understand why he would choose all this luxury and protection over his family. The Governor must have really played him good to get him to turn his back on his family...
She knew her brother was selfish but to turn his back when she needed him most. She couldn't believe he could do this. Merle loved her and Daryl like no other, even if he had a hard time showing it.
Martinez stopped and she heard the door open before he wheel her wheelchair inside a well lit room that smelt faintly like lavender and bourbon. "Does somebody else live here?" She asks.
"Yeah. The Governor says since you can't walk or see yet to have you living with somebody." Martinez says grimly.
Ash became worried at the tone in his voice. "Who is it?" She asks, wondering who her new roommate is.
"Me." The voice of the Governor sounded in her ears and she went stiff as a board.
'Dear God, kill me now. Strike me down and end it.' She thought as the scalpel hidden in her jeans suddenly felt prominent against her skin. "Oh." Is all she said.
"You can leave now." The Governor said to Martinez and the sound of his footsteps walked out and shut the door. The Governor walked around the room and she heard a liquid being poured into a glass. She suddenly wished she could see to know where he was but then remembered why she was waiting in the first place.
"Would you like a glass? It's a bourbon our scouts found on the road." He said.
Ash shook her head. "No. I don't drink." She replies. That wasn't exactly true but he could have easily done something to the drink. Its not like he has to turn his back or anything to slip something in it.
"That's alright. What would you like? You must be very thirsty." He said as she heard his feet move around the room.
It was true, she was very dehydrated from being locked in that car for two days with only one bottle of water and a bag of chips, which she finished, thinking they would come back for her but they never did. Not to mention she was starving as well.
At this, her stomach grumbled loudly and she wrapped her arms around it, trying to silence her hunger. "I'm alright." She lies.
The Governor chuckles. "Your gut says otherwise. Here, let me help you." He says and she feels a push forward and she grabs the handles of her wheelchair tightly. She is stopped and holds her hand out to feel but is grabbed quickly. "Careful, wouldn't want to knock anything over." He says.
She retracts her hands down to her lap and leans forward slightly. The smell of bread and spaghetti hits her nose and her stomach gives a painful lurch. Thinking she's about to puke, she clasps her hands over her mouth and nose. "Is this...there's no way..." She says in shock.
He chuckles again. "Yes. We have managed to make bread with the ingredients and tools and we scrounged the spaghetti up a while back. We save it for special occasions." He explains.
Ash shales her head, her mind instantly going to Dale and tears prick her eyes
"This can't be." She says with a small chuckle. She lifts her head up to him. "Can I..?" She begins, forgetting that she couldn't trust this man. The hunger in her took over her insecurities."Of course." The Governor says.
Ash lifts her hand carefully and places it on the table, looking for the fork to eat. After not being able to find it, she feels the Governor grab her hand, carry it to where the fork lays, and wraps her fingers around the metal object. She looks up with slight embarrassment. "Sorry." She says.
"Don't be." The Governor replies. He lets go and she brings the fork full of spaghetti to her cracked lips. She chews it slowly at first, her mouth surprised at the culture shock, and the tastes explode and so does her hunger. She forgets all of her instincts that tell her to slow down and pay attention to what's around her and begins digging in the food like its going to disappear. She leaned over the plate so she was about three inches from it so she knew exactly where it was.
She heard chuckling and a hand grabbing her shoulder, causing her to flinch back, glare in the direction of the hand, and point the fork in that direction with a low growl escaping from the back of her throat. "Slow down there, turbo. You're going to be sick." The Governor said with another chuckle.
Ash realized she still had noodles hanging from her mouth and she slowly slurped them up. She swallowed her food and sat up, trying to push down the clogged food she forgot to chew. "Sorry..." She says embarrassed. She didn't even know what his expression was to how she ate like an animal and that infuriated her. Why the hell was she waiting? Oh...yeah...Rick...
The Governor laughs as she feels a cloth touch her face. She realized he was wiping the food off her face and became more embarrassed. God, she was disgusting.
"There, all better." He says and Ash turns away. Suddenly feeling like she was going to be sick, she put her to her mouth. She heard the Governor stand up and quickly guide her into, she could assume, the bathroom. She reached for the toilet but it was too late.
She emptied her stomach just in time as the Governor pulled her over the toilet. When she was done she felt better. She lifted her hand with a thumbs up, telling him that she was done. He helped her back in her chair and she sighed.
"Thanks for dinner. Even if I did puke it up." She says with a grimace.
"You're welcome." It's quiet for a moment before he speaks again. "Can I ask you something? It may be a little personal."
Ash stiffens. "You can ask but I dunno if I'll answer." She says skeptically.
The Governor chuckles softly. "Alright. Fair enough." He says. "Why did you refuse to wear the glasses? Dr Bridger said the lenses helped you see but you pulled away. Can I ask why?" He asks.
Ash frowns as she bows her head. She thought she could trust Alex. Thought she was a friend in this strange and new place. Just shows how much you couldn't trust anybody anymore. How naive of her to think otherwise.
Ash shakes her head. "I didn't want the first thing I see to be a poster on the wall in a small room. I wanted it to be something special." She said. It wasn't a lie. In fact, it was the truth. Just not the whole truth.
The Governor is quiet and she thinks he doesn't believe her until he speaks. "I agree with you. The first thing you see should be something special." He says.
Ash became confused. What did he mean?
