[Ash]

I sit up quickly in a cold sweat panting. I look up to see Rick standing there looking worried. The sun was already up, which means I slept in late, again.

I calm my breathing and stand up from the dirt ground. I put my hair in a quick ponytail as I wipe the sweat off my face.

"Are you okay?" Rick asks putting a hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah." I mumble as I walk away and then pace back and forth thinking about my dream.

"Why'd you sleep out here?" He asks as he stops me from pacing by walking in front of me.

"I like the stars." I mumbled a reply, not completely telling the truth.

"Ash, what's wrong?" He asks as he places his hands on both my shoulders.

I open my arms and hug him tightly. He wraps his arms back around me as I cry into his chest. "I-It was so horrible! You were dead! And- and everyone here were dead! They were after me! And then- and then my sister-! Rick, I'm so sorry!" I cry.

"Shh... It's okay. We're not dead. No ones after you. Its okay." Rick says as he soothingly runs his hand through my hair.

After a while of him comforting me, he leaves to go to his family. I walk around for a while after Rick left with people to check some things out.

I sit at the same spot against the tree as I did last night drawing in the dirt with a stick. My headache has only been progressing and I'm starting to feel a bit light headed. But, I'm sure it'll pass by quickly.

I hear a very familiar voice shout. "Merle! Merle! Get your ugly a** out here! I got us some squirrel! Let's stew 'em up."

Daryl Dixon.

"Daryl, just slow down a bit. I need to talk to you." Shane says as I see him walk up to him. He hasn't really changed much since I last saw him.

"About what?" Daryl asks. I feel my heart break thinking about yesterday.

"About Merle. There was a- there was a problem in Atlanta." Everyone surrounds him, like a gang surrounding their next victim. I stand up to look at him through the people.

"He dead?" Daryl asks.

"We're not sure." Shane said.

"He either is or he ain't!" Daryl snaps.

"No easy way to say this, so I'll just say it." Rick says walking to Daryl.

"Who are you?" He asks.

"Rick Grimes." He says.

"Rick Grimes, you got something you want to tell me?" Daryl asks.

"Your brother was a danger to us all, so I handcuffed him on a roof, hooked him to a piece of metal. He's still there." Rick says as I see T-Dog pass by me with wood for the fire.

"Hold on. Let me process this. You're saying you handcuffed my brother to a roof and you left him there?!" Daryl screams.

I flinch back and hit my back on the tree. I feel so guilty even though I know it's not my fault. I just wish I could have done something.

"Yeah." Is all Rick says.

Daryl throws the squirrels at him and goes to attack him but Shane pushes him to the ground.

Daryl pulls out a knife as T-Dog runs up. "Hey. Watch the knife!" He yells.

Daryl jumps up and starts swinging the knife at Rick but Shane puts him in a choke hold. "Okay. Okay." Shane says.

"You best let me go!" Daryl screams.

"Nah, I think it's better if I don't." Shane says as he drags him to the floor.

"Choke holds illegal." Daryl says.

"You can file a complaint." Shane says. "Come on, man. We'll keep this up all day." He says.

I turn away and put my face into the tree. Tears stream down my face as I cry. They continue talking and arguing.

This shouldn't be happening. I shouldn't be letting this happen. But, I just got here and I don't have a say in anything.

Daryl is like my brother, along with Merle. They were always there for me when I needed to escape that house. In fact, I saw them the day before this all started.

My father attacked me when I got home from school. Gave me a black eye, a split lip, and a whole lot of bruises on my body.

I turn back round and see Daryl storming off. I grab my bag and run after him, into the woods. "Daryl." I say behind him.

He turns and aims his crossbow at me. He lowers it hesitantly as I continue sobbing. "A-Ash?" He asks.

I nod my head as I run into his open arms. I hug him as he hugs me tightly. "You're here? You're alive?" He asks as he puts his hand in my hair.

"Yes. I'm here. I survived, Daryl. I'm here." I tell him, smiling through my tears.

We pull away and he looks me in the eyes. "W-where have you been all this time?" He asks.

"No where. Daryl, I had nowhere to go. I just went where I felt safest, which was hardly ever." I say looking into his grey blue orbs.

"I'm so sorry. We came to yer house to get ya so we could leave, but ya were already gone. Ya parents were roamin' the place, dead." He says.

I nod my head. "I know. I saw them. That's why I ran. I didn't know what was going on. I was scared and confused." I tell him, remembering that night.

He nods and pulls me in for another hug. I missed him so much. Yeah, Merle was like a brother to me as well, but not like Daryl.

Merle was funny and he knew how to make me laugh, but he always said the wrong things at the wrong times.

Daryl knew how to make me feel safe. He wasn't the best comedian, but he knew what to say to make me feel better.

I missed both brothers so much. They got me through the toughest times after my sister died. I'm glad that I was able to find them again.
