I stared down at my feet not being able to look at fake Cas. That was the thing, I knew he was fake, but it still hurt. It hurt to know that even though the real Cas was back on earth, the one standing right in front of me wanted me to stay too.
I wouldn't stay though. I knew all too well, they were not my family and they never would be. They couldn't give me the reassurance that I would need on hard nights, because they didn't actually know me. They wouldn't help me through the only dream that constantly plagued my sleep. They wouldn't be there when I dozed off and came to, screaming. They wouldn't be there for me, because they didn't know how to be there. That was the difference between them and my real family. They weren't my family.
Looking up at the sky I realized it was completely pitch black, except for the light coming from the faint glow of something very colorful in the sky, surrounded by stars. It was Earth. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was huge, taking up a large amount of space. White swirls and large masses of land stood out to me. Upon closer inspection, I could see lots of tiny lights glowing from upon it. There were some places where the lights reflected perfectly off the water and made it look like it was alive. I thought about all the stories I used to read about mermaids. I closed my eyes and imagined that there were beautiful mermaids lurking just under the surface of the water.
A stray tear leaked down my cheek, and I sniffled. I looked down at my feet and was disgusted with myself. How could I still be standing there? Why wasn't I calling my mother to demand she take me back to Earth? I knew why. It was because there was some part deep inside that honestly didn't want to go. That part of me knew that there, I was always safe and I could live a normal life.
I lifted my head up and stared determinedly up at the stars.
'Who needs normal anyway? '
Normal was boring. Normal was apple pie but I preferred something different, something much wilder. I preferred angels.
Feeling everyone's gaze on me, I turned to them and smirked. I closed my eyes and lifted my head towards the sky.
"I'm ready," I whispered and smiled brightly. A bright light engulfed me, and I heard shouting before I fell hard on the ground. When I looked around I could see that I was in the same spot I just was.
I stood up and got an actual good look around myself. I then realized I actually wasn't in the same place. Well, I was in the same place just not in the same universe. I guess that was what you could call it. Everything looked exactly the same, right down to the very last detail. Then I looked at the sky. I almost started crying, because I could see the large white moon and what seemed to be small glows of light scattered across the night sky. We knew them as stars, and I laughed at the fact that I could actually say, I could see the stars from Earth.
The door of the bunker was just to the left of me, and I stood up and started sprinting towards it. The feeling of actual wind on my face was exhilarating, and I sprinted faster. When I got to the door, I took a few minutes to memorize every nook and cranny of it. I stroked a long gash mark in the door, where I accidentally sliced it with a knife. My palms were sweaty as I slowly knocked on the door.
My heart was racing a thousand miles an hour, and I wondered who would answer the door. I heard scuffling behind the door as it opened. My heart clenched in anticipation, but immediately deflated when I saw who it was. Standing there was the one person who I thought my subconscious had just made up to give me paradise.
Simon.
His blonde hair was barely visible behind the hoodie he was wearing. He rubbed his eyes and looked at me strangely.
