Rise and shine today is my first day working as a reporter/journalist! I woke up around 6:30 this morning so I had enough time to get ready for the day and leave early enough that I won't get stuck in traffic heading into downtown Charlotte. I decided to wear some dress pants and a nice blouse with a pair of my loafers. I put on some makeup and curled my already curly hair before I was ready to leave my apartment for the day. I am so grateful for my parents because they had my car sent here to me in Charlotte all the way from my hometown of Marietta. I drive a 2017 Buick Encore SUV and I love it so much because it's easy on gas mileage, comfortable, roomy enough, and easy to drive.
I am thankful that my apartment is only around 10 minuets from the Speedway. I pulled up to the racetrack around 7:45, I parked and made my way inside the building so I could meet my boss and see what needed to be done for the day. As soon as I walked in I met Kate Tomlinson who is my boss. She immediately recognized me and said "Oh Julia I am so excited that you will be working for us here at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I have read the articles that you have already done for the Motorsports Weekly and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I hear that you also do some photography on the side as well?" I respond back to her " It is so nice to meet you Mrs. Kate. I am so excited about this opportunity that I have working for y'all, and yes I do photography as well besides my journalism and reporting."
Kate hands me my new ID to be able to get into the buildings, and to use on race-day when I will be interviewing on the track/garages/pits. We then walk down this hallway to a room full of offices and cubicles. We stop at this medium sized office space and I notice that my name is on the outside of the door where everyone can see it. She explains to me that just outside of Charlotte in a town called Moorseville is where MRN is located and that my first reporting job will be on a NASCAR podcast that films there. On the outside I am keeping it together but on the inside I am freaking out because I know exactly what podcast she is talking about called the "Glass Case of Emotion" hosted by Kim Coon, Chuck Bush, and NASCAR cutie and driver Ryan Blaney. I tell Kate that I look forward to heading out to Moorseville and coming back with an awesome first report.
For the rest of the day I have been working on what I want to ask the hosts of the podcast and different articles they might find hilarious to want to discuss on air. Since that is the only thing that Kate wants me to do I end up getting to leave and go home early since I have to go on a little road trip tomorrow to Moorseville. I arrived back home and I call my parents and talk to them about how my first day went.
