Chapter 18: Grab The Damn Phone!

"Crap," I whisper as my eyes widened as I drop the box of pizza. Alena head snap up from her words and she bounce out of her seat on her bed.

"Piper give me the damn phone!" I yelled as I lunge for the phone, she was quick to move away from me and dunks under me as I jump into the bed, she crawls under the bed with my phone.

"What the fuck? Who are you?" The woman, who I'm guessing is Piper's mom, yelled through my phone as I got out of the bed, going on my knees and try to grab Piper but she was small and pressed herself against the wall, my hand only grasp air.

"Mommy! It's me! Piper! Where are you?! Why haven't you gotten me yet?!" Piper says into the phone and I was desperate to grab the phone from her and end the call, hell I was fucking terrified if Piper tells her she's here.

"Piper? I don't- oh. It's you." She says, her voice full of annoyance.

"Yeah mom! It's me! I'm here at the cam-" I cut her off before she could utter the next word.

"PIPER! GIVE ME THE DAMN PHONE FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" I screamed, trying to grab her but she presses herself even more against the wall, not wanting me to touch her. Alena was right next to me, also trying to reach for her as we pleaded for her to give us the phone.

"Who's tha-" The woman starts to say but I push myself under the bed, I bump my head against the bed but didn't care as I grab the phone from Piper, ending the call quickly and thrusting the phone away from us. I grab Piper and haul her out from under the bed, with her screaming and withering in my grip. I push her onto the bed and stand in front of her as she starts to cry, wanting my phone back.

"I want my mommy! She has to get me! I want her back!" Piper screams at me but I shook my head, grabbing her and putting her on my lap, I wrap my legs and arms around her, securing her from escaping my tightening grip as she cries loudly.

"This stays between us, got it? No one can know she contact her mother," I hissed through my teeth to Alena and Bronte, Alena nodded as they stare at Piper, shocked from what just happened right now.

"B-But what about my mommy?" Bronte timid voice says through Piper's sobs, Alena's face fell as she looks at her, Bronte starts to tear up too.

"Oh baby girl," Alena says and grabs her, tugging her onto her lap and cradling her into her arms as Bronte starts to cry too.

Piper sobs into my shirt as I kissed her head, running my fingers through her hair as her nails dug into my skin. "Shh, shh darling, it's going to be okay." I whisper into her ear, trying to calm her down but no such luck, it only made her sob louder, Bronte following close by.

"No it's no-not! I-I wan-want my mom-mommy!" She screams into my chest and I tighten my grip on her as she takes in deep breaths before crying harder.

I gulp, I didn't know what to say about that. So, I lied to maybe calm her down. "S-She's gonna come back, she'll take you back, you'll be in her arms soon honey. You'll see her soon." I honestly didn't know if she would, but judging by her voice and the way she talked to Piper, I'm guessing she didn't want anything to do with her.

"Pr-Promise she wi-will? Is she coming back for me?" Piper asks me softly, looking up at me with bloodshot eyes, her face red and stuffy with all the crying. Her eyes looked so hopeful about it that my heart ache at her pain, I wanted to take this pain away from her and protect her from all the pain that this world could inflect on her. So, I licked my lips and nodded softly.

"P-Promise. Sh-She will." I didn't want to promise it because I knew it wouldn't come true, promises were meant to be kept, not broken. But it was enough to calm Piper down and she lays back down in my arms, sniffling and crying softly. I made eye contact with Alena and she gives me a worried look as Bronte calms down in her arms, I gived her a forced smile. We both knew that they're moms weren't coming back for them, we just had to keep making them believe that they would.
