The sound beeping slowly brings me to my senses, reminding me of what just happened.

Somebody tried to kill me. My apartment's destroyed. I open my eyes a bit, seeing an needle going into my arm and white everywhere. Thank god that hospitals are a thing. I take a deep breath before mumbling, "God bless America." I hear a chuckle to my side before seeing Steve sitting in a chair and Sam asleep in another. I feel my cheeks heat up. I didn't know he was here. "What happened?"

He stands up before walking closer to me. "Your apartment was blown up. I rushed over once you texted me, but your stubborn self decided it was smart to go in. I rushed you over here." I let out a laugh, looking over at Sam. "Yea, he wasn't happy. He pretty much forced me to bring him with." I look over at the door, seeing Bucky walking in with a couple cups, probably coffee. "Him too."

"You're awake! How are you feeling?" Bucky says, putting the drinks down and rushing to my side. Damn, I'm just the super soldier magnet. I smile at him before he kisses my cheek.

A gasp comes from the corner of the room before Sam gets up real quick. "Buck, don't do tha- YOU'RE AWAKE!" He says, almost yelling.

"Yes, yes, I am awake. Jesus. Sam, drink your coffee. Steve, hell I don't know if you can drink coffee. But drink your coffee."

All three of them walk over and grab a cup, Bucky and Sam sitting down while Steve went back to his post by my side. "How do you feel?" He says, setting his cup down on the side table. "Headaches, anything?"

"Not really? I feel fine." I say, smirking at him a little. "How do I look?"

"Well you have a-" Sam goes to say before Steve cuts him off.

"You look amazing for someone who was just in an explosion." I giggle in response before the doctor walks into the room.

Almost in response, Sam and Bucky leave the room. "Hello Miss Blake, glad to see that you're feeling better. Any complaints?"

"Not at all doctor. I feel pretty good."

He nods affirmatively before looking down at his clipboards. Doctors and their clipboards, man. I'm convinced they have at least a hundred of them. "You didn't sustain any serious injuries, so as long as you are feeling better, you are able to leave. Let me go get a nurse and your papers and we'll get you on your way." He nods again before leaving the room.

Almost as soon as he leaves, Bucky walks back in. Where's Sam? I tilt my head at him before he smiles gently at me. "Sam had something to go do." I smile back before I see Steve looking out at the window, almost deep in thought. I don't want to interrupt him, he looks...handsome. "So, the doc say anything?"

"I'm free to go. Go where, I don't know. But, hell, I'll find out." I laugh before Bucky does too. I don't know him too well, but he seems to be a genuine guy. Hopefully I'll see him around more often.

Within the next 10 minutes, I had gotten changed into a change of clothes and got my papers to get out. The three of us walked down the hallway and out of the entrance doors, Steve leading us to a car, the same one he was picked up in earlier. "Where did you guys even get these clothes? And how did you know my size?"

Bucky laughs before Steve does too. "We made Sam go get them. Had to tell him that you wouldn't want to go home in a shirt from the gift shop. We looked at your old clothes." Steve says, opening the door for me to get into the passenger seat. Once we were settled into the car, Steve looks over at me. "Listen Emily. You can't go back to your apartment. I'm not going to let you. If we're right, Hydra was the one who tried to hurt you. If you want to be safe, you should come with us back to our base."

When I stayed silent, Bucky cleared his throat. "Emily please. I don't want to lose another friend to Hydra. And plus, it's going to be fun having you around. I won't have Sam up my ass every five minutes because he's bored." He chuckles again before I sigh.

The whole reason I came to New York was for me to stay safe. I've only been here a few weeks and now my apartment was blown up, I just got out of the hospital, and a criminal organization is out to kill me. Just fucking perfect. Why can't you just live a normal life, Emily?

If I want to stay safe, I guess I have to go with them. After all, we're stronger in numbers. "Ok." I whisper before look over at Steve. He had this expression on his face, one I couldn't quite read. I can usually read faces well, but he seemed to be hiding it. Hm. "Okay. Let's go." I say before they both nod. I spend the majority of the car ride staring out of the window. He lives with his team. Who are his team? What if they don't like me?

"What's wrong?" Steve says, glancing over at me before looking back at the road.

"Your team. What if they don't like me?" I say, eyes still on the passing buildings and cars.

"Well, they are all different in their own way. Natasha will probably be skeptical but once you get to know her, she'll be friendly."

"Tony will probably try to hit on you. He does it with all the pretty girls that come in."

"Bruce will be the same as Natasha. He's a little antsy." They begin to go down the list of people on the team, telling me that everyone will be nice. A little skeptical of the new person coming in, but they will warm eventually. We pull into a garage before Steve smiles at me. "Welcome to Avengers Tower."
