Thoughts spiraled around in my mind as I suited up for the night I'm about to have. How am I even supposed to do this? What am I even going to do? Destroy the building? Kill them? I don't know what I'm supposed to do. This is my first time doing this, after all. My idea of sneaking in was going to see free movies, not taking down criminal organizations.
Well, guess it's time to grow up, Emily.
I put a knife in each of my boots before adding another onto my belt loop. I know I have powers, but I want to make sure I have backup in case the unexpected happens. I do a once over of the place, making sure I have everything I need. I hide my house key in my mail box, that way I wasn't carrying it on me. Good thinking, now prep for what's about to happen.
I catch a taxi to the closest point to the location - which was an old warehouse district on the very edge of town. Honestly, it was very obvious that the criminals were in the dilapidated buildings. Whatever suits them, I guess.
I sneak towards a storage container, peeking around the corner and surveying the area. There was a guard at each of the doors. Thankfully, both of them seemed to be taking a nap on the job. I sneakily run past them and into the building, before surveying the area. A guard was patrolling the area. Just one, who was lazily walking around the area, large gun in hand. I kinda want that one. I like it. I usually don't use guns, but why not have it for safety? I sneak up behind him and wrap my hands over his eyes, its as if I'm playing deadly game of 'who's there'. I glow up my hands, blinding him before slamming his head against the the brick wall. One down, who knows how many more.
I repeat the process twice more before coming up into a room with multiple guards in it. Hm. What to do. I can control light. What if I can absorb all the light in the room? Make it dark? I stretch my hands out, feeling the power growing as the light of the room darkens. I don't know how much longer I can hold it, so I guess I ought to hurry along to take the guards out.
"что здесь происходит?" (What is going on)? I heard one ask.
"Я не знаю. Отключение электричества?" (I do not know. Power outage?) Another asks. I sneak behind one and knock him out before doing it to another one, then the other. Soon, I was the only one in the room.
Until I feel a force push me up against the room. I hear a gruff voice grumble something before saying, "Who are you?" English. So it's an agent that knows English...or not an agent at all.
"Who are you?" I say in response, smirking slightly.
"I asked first." He says back, pressing a little harder onto my shoulders.
"I like this, but you really should have taken me to dinner first." I say, laughing lightly. Whoever this is, I don't really care. He's not hurting me, so no harm in having a little fun in messing around with him.
"Never mind that, I want to know who you are. I saw how you took the lights out." Fuck. He knows. Guess I got to make my escape now.
"And now you'll see how I turn the lights back on." I make myself glow brightly, blinding him to the point where he's letting me go and backing up. Perfect. I add in a little shove to get him farther away from me before escaping the way I came in from. Thankfully, the guy had taken care of the agents that were on the way. I guess that guy did something good for me after all. After I had gotten to somewhere inconspicuous, I called a taxi and went back to my apartment, putting my knives back and changing into something more comfortable.
However, my mind keeps going back to the man at the facility. Who was he? I had managed to catch a glimpse at the guy upon escaping, but I never caught a name or anything. All I saw was him wearing a blue and red suit with bits of white on it. I wish I could have knew his name or something. After all, if he was like me, it would have been nice to know someone else in this big city.
I'm tired of being alone. I need friends. I need to know someone else that isn't my couch or my bed. My eyes glimpse the clock on my stove, saying 1 am. If I really wanted to, I guess I could go out to a bar or something. It'll have enough time to get a few drinks in my system and unwind.
I search my closet, finding a black dress and a pair of dressy sandals. I get dressed quickly before walking out of my building, finding a club not that far from my house. Walking distance, perfect. I walk into the club before ordering a whiskey. I'm here to drink after all, why not go hard to start? The lights flash around before I start to feel in my element. The flashing lights, the glow. It's where I belong. I down my drink before going out onto the dance floor, the song Sucker by the Jonas Brothers begins to play. I begin to mouth the lyrics while dancing alone. Being alone doesn't bother me when I'm in my element. I look over before I seeing a guy dancing alone too. He smiled at me before motioning for me to join him. We danced together, nothing too sexual, which was uprising. Whenever I go out to the club, guys are wanting to dance with me that way. Things are different here, and I like it. The song begins to change before he begins to leave the floor, motioning for me to join him at one of the booths. "What's your name?" He says, loud enough for me to hear him over the noise.
Should I give him my real name? I mean, I don't feel threatened with him. If I did, I wouldn't trust him. But, there's something to him that I can't help but trust him. "Emily, what about you?"
"Sam! Hey, you're cool! We should hang out sometime!" He says before pulling out his phone for me to put my number in. I comply, putting it in and handing it back. His phone case was a picture of him and another two guys. One with light brown hair and the other with long dark hair. "Oh, those are my friends Steve and Bucky! Maybe you'll meet them sometime. They're usually with me here but they were busy tonight." I smile in response before we have a conversation about how I just moved here and was looking for friends. I really like Sam. He's fun to talk to, different from other guys that I usually found in the bars and clubs back in Washington.
Time hits sooner than expected and we separate, him having to go home for work in the morning and I have to go home to recuperate from the night that I just had. On the walk home, I can't help but shake the thought of the guy from earlier. Who was he? Now was time for sleep, but tomorrow was the day that I'd get my answers.
