My mom was taken by Hydra.
My mom was given powers by Hydra.
My mom was Hydra.
The thoughts kept running through my mind. How? How would I not notice it?
"Mom, who's that?" 8-year old Emily said, looking from around her bedroom door frame. There was a man standing there, dressed in all black .
"Don't worry about it, baby." She looked back at the man before taking a step forward. "Go to your room." She walked up to him before speaking a different language. Russian.
I should have realized it over the years. My mom had told me that it was a a friend of hers from college. I had always thought it was strange how he had only spoke Russian.
That was the reason I had originally learned Russian. It was in case I had seen or ran into that man again. So I could know what they were talking about. Unfortunately, I didn't see him again.
"Especially when I know a little something about your ex-boyfriend and his future plans for you, Emily."
The Hydra agent's words rattle in my mind, reminding me of the possible threat at hand. I didn't end things well with Brandon, I'm not going to lie. However, if this means that he's teamed up with Hydra, that means that I'm fucked. He knows who I am, he knows that I have powers. And if he's with Hydra, that means that he could be behind my apartment bombing.
Just what I need. Another angry ex-boyfriend.
I feel a pat on my hand, looking over and seeing Steve next to me. He doesn't say anything, just leaving his hand on mine. I take it, squeezing it tightly. Thankfully, my ex is nothing to my current man. Steve may not be my boyfriend, but God knows that I'm not letting any bitch steal him away from me.
A sudden tap on my shoulder catches me off guard, making me sit up quickly. Steve smiles sweetly at me as I wipe my eyes. I must have fell asleep. I look out the window, seeing green and buildings. "We're about to land, Em." I smile back at him before fixing my hair. Sleeping on a plane really messes up your hair. "Listen Em. I was thinking, you want to get dinner tomorrow?"
I blush a little. About time that Steve's finally taking that step to ask him. I know he asked me a while ago, but I thought he had forgotten about it. "Of course, Steve." I kiss him on the cheek before I see us land. Perfect, I need a shower and some clean clothes. "Catch ya, Cap. A warm shower is calling my name." With that, I unbuckled and left the quinjet with my eyes set for relaxation.
It was almost as soon as I got out of the shower and into fresh clothes that I had Friday seeking my attention. "How was the mission, Miss Blake?"
"It was good, FRIDAY. How was the tower?"
"Mr. Stark blew something up in his lab and Mr. Odinson ran out of poptarts." Ah, like normal. "Mr. Fury has requested your presence. He has a woman downstairs that will accompany you to him."
"Thanks, FRIDAY." I throw on a pair of tennis shoes and my new phone before walking down the hallway. I needed to get a new phone since the old one had gotten destroyed in the explosion. I never needed one until lately, so Wanda and I went to go pick it up while paying with Tony's money. After all, he offered. The elevator doors opened before I saw a woman I hadn't seen before standing by the bar counter, talking to Tony and Steve. I take a step out of the elevator before she notices that I'm there. "Hi, I'm Emily."
"Maria Hill. Fury sent me to bring you over." I shake her hand before we wave bye to the guys. We hopped into a vehicle, Maria driving down side streets. "So I heard you had your first unofficial mission this morning."
I look up, seeing her looking up at me in the rear view mirror. "Yea, it was pretty fun to get to go on it."
"Steve told me how well you did. Good job." She smiles at me before finishing the drive to the secret building. It was a different one from before. They must be so confidential that they change buildings. I notice Maria push a button on the dash before a door opens up and we drive through it. Jesus, secret openings too. These people sure like their security. She gets out before waving me on. Guess I get out too. "Come on, Emily. You've already met Fury, no need to be scared." She laughs before we walk into an elevator and she pushes a button labeled M. M? What the hell would be labelled M? The doors open as we enter a matte black room. Almost everything was black in the room except for the computer screens. "Fury, I've returned."
He slowly turns around, a smirk on his face. "Emily, glad to know that you've survived your first mission." Survived? I raise an eyebrow before he looks me in the eye. I say the eye because he has only one eye. "According to the mission debriefing from the rest of the team, there was a lot of information given to us from the enemy."
"What, like my mom apparently being a Hydra agent? Or was it that my ex-boyfriend is also apparently working for Hydra and is out to kill me?"
"All the above. We are working on getting more information from the prisoner you guys brought in for us. We will let you guys know what we find out as soon as possible." With that he turns around. I give Maria a look before Fury starts up again. "That's not the reason I brought you in. I heard about how you did on the mission. You held your own and was a valuable asset to the team. I would like to ask you if you want to officially become a member of the Avengers initiative."
Fury wants me to officially become an Avenger. Fuck. Everyone thinks that I'm important? I nod at him, clearing my throat. "Yes, Director Fury."
"Well, you're going to need this."
