"You know, I'm really liking the new look."
Melanie shifted her head that rested on her fist. It was the first thing he had said on the silent trip to the drive in. Now it just seemed dishonest and not to mention just too little too late. Her eyes went to the window staring out at the moon beaming over a sea of green as they pulled up to the drive in. The car jerked as they road on a gravel road. If she didn't know Vincentville so well, and didn't know Isaac she would sweat he was taking her into some back woods to murder her.
She blew out a soft breath forcing out a mumming sound from her lips.
"What is it Mel?" Isaac asked blankly.
She looked back at him, "Nothing. I'm fine." She was over dressed going to the drive in, and there was a nagging suspicion that Isaac didn't get that this wasn't a date.
"Did I say something wrong?" He huffed.
Melanie just shrugged, "I'm fine." She said shortly.
Isaac rolled his eyes, and slid out of the line pulling over into a grassy ditch. If made Melanie a little nervous. "Mel, if you don't want to do this we don't have to."
"Where here aren't we?"
Isaac huffed again, "Does everything with you have to be so difficult."
Her eyes darted at him and her eyes went into slits, "Excuse me? You wanted me here, I'm here."
"What's with the attitude Mel?" He snapped.
"What attitude."
"Did you play body snatchers with Dee or something?"
Her eyes widened and narrowed again.
"Look, I'm sorry..." Isaac knew he said something wrong her face said everything. Comparing Melanie to Dee was like comparing Princess Aurora to Maleficent. He put up a hand.
Melanie blew out a surrendering breath. "I'm sorry, Shaggs. It's just been a long day. I've got a lot on my mind."
"We don't have to go to the drive in you know." He smiled, "I can take you to a nice sit down place...you know so you don't feel so...out of place."
Her soft pink lips curved into a half smile, "I thought we were helping your friends."
Isaac shrugged knowing he could care less if Dorian and Penny got together or not. Not that he wasn't rooting for it, but his only concern was the beautiful woman sitting next to him. Tonight he wanted to be about her, making her see him as more than just her goofy best friend. He smiled confidently sliding his hand over hers, "I'm more worried about spending time with my best friend, and making sure she's happy."
She smiled, "Shaggs, I'm fine."
"I feel like crap for not telling you where we were going. I wanted to surprise you."
She let out a slight giggled, "This is fine Shaggs." She sighed sliding her fingers through her silky hair, "This is fine, I just need to relax and have a good time. I'm sorry."
He started the car and pulled back into the drive in car line, "It's cool. I don't want you to worry about anything tonight." He looked at her, "Okay?"
She nodded her chocolate eyes glimmering.
He tangled his fingers in hers. As he pulled into a parking space toward the back of the lot for the big movie screen.
His hand darted for the door, "You want some snacks? Did you eat?"
Melanie just shrugged, "Snacks I guess. I'm not really that hungry."
