She woke up from a deep sleep. A fuzzy realization came to her under the furry over plush blankets on the king sized mattress that swallowed her up. She wondered how she thought that this was a good idea. Maybe it was the little girl that played this stupid game with that little stuttering ten year old boy in the tree house. Because he looked at her she was the only girl in the world.
She'd dug a hole, and it started when she let him in her room. She could have stopped him, but she didn't. Why? That look. That look that told her she was the center of his universe. When had she become so desperate? What woman didn't want that? To feel beautiful, wanted, cherished, loved. She thought a moment. Was that what this was?
She remembered how Mike would bug her car, phones, and go behind her back to keep tabs on the guys she spoke to in the course of a day, and that night they were arguing about the bag boy she smiled a little too hard at, at the grocery store. Was this that? Was this what her Shaggs had become.
She thought about how easy going Val and Mr. Abe were, she thought about her parents. She remembered a few things. An argument or two. But how could that compare to her and Shaggs. She sat up tucking her legs in to her chest.
She looked up at the double doors leading into the living room area. The fish tanks almost would seem like a window to see the other side of the wall but she didn't. Maybe that was for the best, but she needed to deal with this. She stepped onto the shag carpet and made her way to the door. She slowly unlocked one of the doors and peeked out. She noticed her bag on the table and a few other of her bags purple bags, and some black luggage she's assumed was Isaac's. There was no sign of Isaac.
She slowly opened the door more and stepped out doing another appraisal of the suite. He was still no place to be found, the only sounds was the soft humings of the tank filters. She sighed and walked toward her bag on the table. They must have taken breakfast, but she did feel hungry. She needed clothes, and another shower. She noticed a folded piece of paper on her bag. She slowly unfolded it and noticed Isaac's handwriting and a fish that was in a bubble like she'd seen on the sign with an "M". She almost laughed. She read.
Melanie,
I didn't mean to upset you. I seemed to have been a master at that these days. I miss the days I used to make you laugh so hard you did that cute snort thing. I miss that. I miss us. I miss what we had. Even if it was just friendship.
I do want you, Mel and I love you and I know you love me. Or I think you do. I feel like you start to fall but you're holding back and I don't know why. I don't want you to give up your dreams, I just want to be the one you build a life with. I think you want that too, but again, you're holding back and I don't know why. That night after our date, what were you running from? What are you running from now? Why were you so scared before the date? It is like I feel you falling, and you tell me you're falling and I've been here forever just waiting to catch you. I want to catch you Mel, why won't you let me?
Anyway, the rain cleared so I decided to go for a run. It helps me deal with my frustrations. I'll be back in hopes that we can have a real conversation. I'll leave if you ask me. I won't debate, I'll just go. And leave the ball in your court. If you want to hear from me again, I'll be here, and if not...I guess I will have to just stop trying.
Love,
Isaac AKA Shaggs.
She let out a sigh. She just pulled out a pair of purple jogging pants and a thin black t-shirt. Maybe she would jog too, along the beach, that was if Shaggs wasn't back. He would obviously want to talk. And she was ready to without the hostility. Her shower was cut short when she'd thought she'd heard a noise, and thought it was Isaac. She dried herself off and quickly got dressed, but as she stepped out of the bathroom, she'd realized it was her phone.
