THE WEEKENED CAME AND WENT, and Kate was walking into school with Billy's arm slung over her shoulder. The two of them had spent the better part of the weekend together; only parting for an hour or so when Billy had to meet with some of his basketball friends at the gym.

As she walked into Hawkins High, she vaguely remembered Nancy telling her about coming to school after her first time. The brunette told her how different everything felt and how she thought everyone was staring at her. Kate had dismissed her comments back then, but she was quickly discovering how true they really were.

There was an extra pep in her step, despite the distant soreness – and she really did feel like people were looking at her. As she walked by Tommy and his group of friends, they sent her suggestive winks. Her face flushed as she quickly looked away.

Billy wrapped his arm tighter around her. "You alright, princess?"

"I feel like everyone's staring," she muttered softly, tucking a piece of hair behind her hair.

"They are," he affirmed, looking down at her with a cocky smirk. "We're the hottest couple in Hawkins, baby, why wouldn't they stare?"

Kate mustered a small smile as they finally reached her locker. She was practically on autopilot as she got her books and went to her first period class, feeling like something in her gut wasn't right.

But the day went on, and it was just has normal as the days before it. The bell finally rung for free period, which meant Kate could finally escape the hellhole – even if for just ninety minutes. As she walked down the lengthy hallway, she bumped into Carol and her group of friends on the way out.

"So you and the California boy, huh?" she smirked as she chomped her gum between her teeth.

Kate furrowed her brows at her sudden question. "What?"
