When Hopper and Joyce stepped into the Upside Down, it terrified them to the core.
After Eleven was able to locate Will and Lauren in the Upside Down in Castle Byers, they rushed to the lab to get them out.
But when they got there, and found the castle wrecked and the kids no where to be seen, Joyce almost lost her shit then and there. But they followed the trail of blood, and it led them to where Will and Lauren were strapped onto the wall...both of them unconscious.
After removing the tube in Will's mouth and handing him to Joyce, Hopper cut the bounds that held Lauren up to the wall and as he put her down she slowly gained consciousness.
And upon seeing the chief of Hawkins and Joyce with Will in her arms a few feet away, all Lauren could do was cry and sob as he held her.
"It's gonna be okay, you're safe now" Hopper said as Lauren lost consciousness again.

Dustin sat impatiently outside the hospital room. It had been a few days since Hopper and Joyce rescued the kids, and Lauren was still in bad shape.
Her lungs were starting to fail and she was frozen cold when they were found, not to mention the bruise on her leg was infected and not properly bound.
That's why she was put in intensive care for 4 days, and they weren't allowed in so Dustin and his mother went ballistic at the doctors, who of course just kept throwing lame excuses.
Dustin sat next to his mother, who was aching to see her daughter. He had his favorite hat in his hands as he nervously played around with it.
"Oh come on just let us see her already!" he impatiently yelled out. "Dustin..." his mother said half-heartedly, she honestly wanted to shout it herself.
"Sorry" he apologized to no one in particular as he put his hat back on.
The hospital room door suddenly came open and the doctor walked outside.
"You can finally see her, Mrs. Henderson." He gave them an apologetic smile.
That's when Nancy, Steve and Jonathan rounded the corner, they must've been sitting behind the wall and patiently waiting for some news.
"We'll call you guys in...in a minute ok?" Mrs. Henderson nervously told the three teens, who nodded. Her hands were shaking as she straightened her dress and took a deep breath.
Dustin looked towards his mother, who nodded as she took a step towards him. He took her hand as they walked into the room together.
The first thing Dustin noticed was how pale his sister had gotten, her hands had small cuts on them and her lips were blue. Her leg was stitched up and she was unconscious.
