When Lauren got home after going to the diner with Billy, she couldn't help the smile that made its way onto her face. He parked at his house and she waved goodbye as she walked to her house across the street.

She walked into the house to find the lights off, and her mother asleep on the couch... probably drunk after bookclub. She laughed when she saw the tiny cat ears that her mom wore almost every Halloween.

"Mom, hey" she cooed, trying to gently wake her up. "You're home" her mom whispered, managing a small tired smile.

"Yeah sorry I'm late. Things got carried away. Let's get you inside ok?" she said, helping her mom off the couch and leading her to her bedroom.

She laid her down on the bed and tucked her in before leaving a kiss on her forehead.

Her eyes wandered around her mother's room until they landed on the empty bedside table. The girl remembered the photo that used to be there, one of her standing in between her parents and hugging them close to her before Dustin was born.

She always thought about her father and wondered why the hell he left them if they looked so happy in that photo.

As Lauren walked to her room, she heard a bang coming from behind Dustin's door. She walked towards his room and gently knocked on his bedroom door. She got no response so she slowly opened the door to reveal Dustin sleeping soundly in his bed, a book about reptiles resting on top of him with a bunch of open candy wrappers thrown across the bed.

She immediately concluded that the sound wasn't coming from Dustin, but from the strange looking pet he put in his turtle's aquarium.

Lauren removed the candy and the book before covering Dustin up with a blanket, then her eyes landed on the other side of Dustin's room.

She took slow steps as she walked towards the reptile looking creature and she felt the weirdest sensation when it opened its mouth and growled at her.

Her mind drifted to the upside down, the moment when she was in the supermarket and the Demogorgon dragged her by her leg.

Lauren felt Mews walking in between her legs so she decided to take him with her to bed. "Come on Mewsy" she whispered to the cat before she glared at the creature and closed the door.

She hated that weird looking lizard.
