The bell rang and Lauren quickly made her way to her locker so that she could get to Billy's car as fast as she could. She grabbed her duffle bag which had her fighting gear which she took to school so that she could go to the fight club straight after. But she was going to delay that for Billy.

"Lauren!" she heard Robin call from behind her as she closed her locker. She turned around and ushered for her to come closer.

"What is it?" Lauren asked Robin, who was out of breath from running. "I need advice" Robin told her and Lauren nodded.

"Alright tell me, but you have 5 minutes or I'm going to be late" Lauren said and Robin nodded.

"Okay so there's this person that I like. I don't think they know I exist so I don't know what to do about it because it sucks just sitting there-" Robin rambled before Lauren cut her off. "Just ask them how their day is going. Start with something simple" Lauren started before pausing.

"You know what? Let's talk about this during lunch. That way you can tell me more details and I can give you specific things to say, alright?" Lauren said and Robin smiled at her.

She hugged her and thanked her, which took Lauren by surprise but she didn't hesitate to hug her back. Then she said goodbye before she ran outside.

When she neared Billy's car she saw him grab Max's hand and it looked like he was lecturing her. She saw the tight grip he had on her hand so Lauren picked up her pace and knocked on Billy's side of the window.

That took him by surprise and he ended up dropping Max's hand. "Everything ok?" Lauren mouthed through the window and she didn't miss the sad look on Max's face.

She sat in the backseat and eyed Billy through the rearview mirror and he sighed as he realized that he was going to get lectured soon.

"So Max, how was your day?" Lauren asked sitting forward and leaning her head on Max's seat, trying to cheer the girl up. "Not bad" she shrugged.

"Are you making friends? or are they giving you a hard time?" Lauren asked and by Max's face she could tell that there was some type of conflict. "I'm kind of friends with Dustin and his party. But i don't think Mike likes me..." Max said, looking down.

"Who the hell is that? Is that the boy?" Billy asked angrily and Lauren put a hand on his shoulder. He immediately took a deep breath. "No, he's another guy" Max whispered.

By the way Billy reacted, Lauren could tell he cared about Max. He just didn't know how to show it properly.

Billy dropped Max off first and Lauren sat in the front seat when Billy started the drive to her house.

"Why did it look like you were hurting Max in the parking lot, Billy?" Lauren asked and Billy breathed out. "The shithead's making a mistake" he whispered and Lauren frowned.

"Then let her. She's young, we all made mistakes when we were young. Hell, we're still making mistakes every day" she said and he exhaled. "Yeah its just not that simple ok?" he said, glaring at the road in front of him.

"Simplify it for me then" Lauren told him, putting her hand on his free one when she saw how tense he got from their conversation. He immediately relaxed and looked at her briefly before his eyes focused back on the road.

"She was talking to a boy" Billy said and Lauren burst out laughing. "Jeez Billy. Is she pregnant?" Lauren asked sarcastically and he gave her a 'its not funny look' before he ended up laughing as well.

"You're something else you know that?" he said, intertwining his hand with hers as he looked at her. Lauren looked down at their hands, the feeling was completely foreign to the girl.

"You're something else too" she whispered, her eyes not leaving their hands.

"I just- my relationship with Max, even her mother is complicated" Billy started. "My dad makes it harder too. That son of a bitch" he whispered the last part and Lauren was taken by surprise from the hostility in his tone towards his father.

"You don't like your dad?" she whispered and Billy gulped, looking at her for a second before turning towards the road. "It's complicated" he said, tightening his grip on her hand.

"I don't like my dad either" she whispered, tightening her grip on his hand too. "Tell me about it-if you want..." Billy whispered, slightly nervous. "Maybe one day" Lauren smiled when she heard Billy laugh.

 "Maybe one day" he whispered.

Then Billy parked the car and Lauren looked up to see that he pulled up to her house.

"See you tomorrow?" she asked and he nodded. She leaned over and kissed his cheek before opening the car door and walking out. Her cheeks were red as she waved at him before he started the car and drove away.

Lauren took a deep breath as a smile made its way onto her face.

She gasped when she heard someone cough from behind her. She turned around and gasped again when she saw Hopper standing on her porch with a file in his hand. He gave her a look as a smirk spread over his face and she immediately flushed.

"Umm" she started before all words escaped her. "Hello Lauren" Hopper greeted, his smirk turning into a smile.

Lauren immediately switched her duffle bag to the hand that was farthest away from Hopper. Hopper noticed this, and a small frown made its way onto his face.

Lauren cleared her throat before speaking. "What are you doing here?" she asked. "we need to talk" he said as his face turned serious.
