The final bell rang and Lauren didn't know how to get home...or explain to Dustin that they're stranded at the school. She quickly made her way to her locker so that she could get her stuff and leave before she sees Billy...or his stupid car or his stupid face.

"Lauren!" she heard Robin call from behind her as she closed her locker. She turned around and ushered for her to come closer.

"What is it?" Lauren asked Robin, who was out of breath from running. "I need advice" Robin told her and Lauren nodded.

"Alright you wanna tell me about it as you drop me and Dustin home?" Lauren smiled innocently and Robin chuckled. "I don't have a license", "Fuck"

"What's wrong?" Robin asked. " I saw you and Billy fight at the gymnasium, you okay?" she continued.

"Yeah its...whatever, but Dustin and I came with him this morning so i'm not sure if he even wants to drop us" she told her. "Anyways, tell me what did you need advice on?" she asked Robin.

"Okay so there's this person that I like. I don't think they know I exist so I don't know what to do about it because it sucks just sitting there-" Robin rambled and paused, hoping Lauren understood enough.

"Start simple, just ask them how their day is going. Start with something casual" Lauren started before pausing when Robin gave her a look. Lauren frowned before turning to find Billy waiting by the door, looking at her.

"You know what? Let's talk about this during lunch. That way you can tell me more details and I can give you specific things to say, alright?" Lauren said and Robin smiled at her.

She hugged her and thanked her, which took Lauren by surprise but she didn't hesitate to hug her back. Then she said goodbye before she walked to Billy.

"Come on" he said as he walked outside and she followed him. She found Max and Dustin already sitting in the car and she sat in the passenger seat.

The ride was quiet...too quiet.

"So Max, how was your day?" Lauren asked the red head. "Not bad" she shrugged.

"Not gonna ask me about my day?" Dustin asked and Lauren gave him a 'i see you everyday' look.

"Are you making friends? or are they giving you a hard time?" Lauren asked and by Max's face she could tell that there was some type of conflict. "I'm kind of friends with Dustin and his party. But i don't think Mike likes me..." Max said, looking down.

"Who the hell is that? Is that the boy?" Billy asked angrily and Lauren put a hand on his shoulder. He immediately took a deep breath. "No, he's another guy" Max whispered.

"What boy?" Lauren asked. "It's nothing just...Billy saw me fight with Lucas the other day" Max said.

"Oh my god, Lucas Sinclair is a sweetheart there's nothing to worry about. In fact, Dustin's friends are all cool, nothing to worry about" she said, more to Billy than Max.

"so now can I tell you about my day?" Dustin asked sassily. "If you insist" Lauren rolled her eyes.

Dustin spoke for 10 long minutes, even when Billy parked outside their house, he still went on a tangent and described his school day in excruciating detail.

"Holy shit are you done? We're home" Lauren said. "Yeah i'm done, thanks Billy" Dustin said as he left the car, Max practically sprinted home, and Billy shook his head.

He held Lauren's hand as she went to open the door. "Stay" he said. She turned to look at him, then told Dustin she'll follow him before she looked towards Billy.

"I'm sorry...that fight was stupid" He said looking anywhere but at her. "I just you're with Steve a lot and you two share that i don't know whatever secret you don't want me to know and i'm sorry but i got a bit territorial. And then when you went to him on the court i just....i almost lost it because i was excited to have you watch me and then you go to him instead? when i won?"

"You pushed him" Lauren replied. "I know, i'm sorry for that" he said and finally looked at her. "It's okay, just don't hurt one of my friends again and we're good" she said and he nodded.

"Territorial?" she asked with a smirk. "Shut up" he whispered with a small smile.

"Why's it always a bit weird between you and Max?" she asked before she could stop herself.

"I just- my relationship with Max, even her mother is complicated" Billy started. "My dad makes it harder too. That son of a bitch" he whispered the last part and Lauren was taken by surprise from the hostility in his tone towards his father.

"You don't like your dad?" she whispered and Billy gulped, looking at her for a second before turning towards the road. "It's complicated" he said, looking down.

"I don't like my dad either" she whispered, reaching for his hand. "Tell me about it-if you want..." Billy whispered, slightly nervous. "Maybe one day" Lauren smiled when she heard Billy laugh.

"Maybe one day" he whispered.

"See you tomorrow?" she asked and he nodded. She leaned over and kissed his cheek before opening the car door and walking out and crossing the street.

Lauren took a deep breath as a smile made its way onto her face.

She gasped when she heard someone cough from behind her. She turned around and gasped again when she saw Hopper standing on her porch with a file in his hand. He gave her a look as a smirk spread over his face and she immediately flushed.

"Umm" she started before all words escaped her. "Hello Lauren" Hopper greeted, his smirk turning into a smile.

Lauren cleared her throat before speaking. "What are you doing here?" she asked. "we need to talk" he said as his face turned serious.
