The next morning, Felix found himself waking up to the blaring ringtone of Hyunjin's phone that was on the other side of the room compared to the two boys who were huddled up on a couch in a rather awkward position - Hyunjin's neck slightly bent he slept sitting up with Felix having one arm sprawled out across his lap.
"God, Jinnie!" Felix groaned, groggily. "Turn that goddamn thing off, it's hurting my head!" This caused the addressed boy to whine as he shoved Felix off of him, rubbing his temple rather harshly as he reached for his phone.
"Who the fuck is daring to call me at this ungodly fucking hour?" Hyunjin hissed, perhaps just as hungover as Felix.
As Hyunjin listened to the caller, Felix sat up. He looked around him to notice that he definitely crashed at Hyunjin's. Furrowing his eyebrows in an attempt to remember the previous night, Felix scowled once he was successful: Chan. Chan's ex. He was too caught up in his own thoughts that at first, he didn't notice the awkward silence that quickly filled the room, or even the evident shock worn on Hyunjin's face; as if he were sobered up.
"Um... yeah. Okay, Binnie," he said. "We'll be ready in about... 20 minutes? Oh — wait. Everyone's going? Sure, no, that's great. Of course I remember!" Hyunjin said as he giggled sheepishly. "See you then" he said before hanging up and slowly facing Felix. "Um... so, last night," he started with.
This successfully gained the blond's attention as he raised his eyebrow in questioning. "What about it?"
Hyunjin gulped before he spoke. "We might've... Planned some sort of camping trip for today... And invited our friends."
There was a pause. Followed by a light chuckle. "Jinnie," Felix said. "It's not that bad, I guess. At least we didn't play strip poker, or something." Once again Hyunjin exerted a sheepish laugh, causing Felix to look at him in a more serious manner than a second ago. "What are you not telling me, Jinnie?"
Felix did not expect to hear what he then did. Boy, was he suddenly sober. "Minho is coming?!" he exclaimed as he jumped up in shock. On receiving a meek 'hmm?' in response, Felix started pacing around the room as he rambled about how this would be a disaster.
"Wait... Lix?" Hyunjin asked, standing up to place his hands on the younger boy's shoulders in order to keep him from fidgeting more. "Is it really that big of a deal?" he asked. "Sung said you two are doing fine recently... Right?" To this, Felix's eyes widened ever so slightly. He could not - not - let his annoyance towards his cousin slip. So he nodded in response. His actions were slightly unconvincing, but soon enough he pushed Hyunjin to quickly pack a bag.
20 minutes later, a minivan pulled up outside of Hyunjin's house. Yet before they entered, Hyunjin quickly pulled Felix aside as he placed his bag in the boot. "Lix... I, I should tell you the truth," he said before sighing. "I remember why I thought of this trip..." spoke Hyunjin before shyly rubbing at his nape.
"What's up, Jinnie?" Felix said in a comforting tone.
"It's because... I wanna try get closer to Binnie again. He's acting off with me and it sucks." On hearing this, more memories of the previous night was recalled; causing Felix to nod in understanding.
Yet before he could respond, the shrillness of a car horn erupted. "Hey, weirdos! Are you getting in or not?" Seungmin shouted. Moments later, both boys found themselves seated in the surprisingly comfy minivan.
"Hey, baby," Chan said as Felix sat next to him, gently lifting the younger Aussie's hand to place a soft kiss on the back of it. "I went over to yours on our way here and got your bag sorted," he said before grinning. Felix couldn't help himself from blushing at the chivalry of Chan, nor could he help ignore the background coos from Jeongin and Jisung; yet instead he offered a mere 'thank you' in response. Chan would be lying if he said he wasn't taken aback slightly by the simplicity of Felix's response, yet he held the younger boy's hand anyway.
"Oh, thanks again for driving us, Woojin hyung" said Jisung in a cheery manner. He received a hearty laugh in response.
"It's no problem, I've got my license and I'm gonna flaunt it" the addressed boy responded with.
His mischievous tone was picked up by Minho, who then rolled his eyes playfully before speaking. "Yeah, yeah. Just because you passed on the first go." Jisung chuckled as he rested his head on the older boy's shoulder.
"Seriously, Min. How did it take you 7 attempts?"
Laughter erupted from the others, all except Felix who chose to sit there in silence as he mindlessly held Chan's hand. He didn't know why he was so bothered by the previous night. He didn't know why he was taking it out on the older boy now and he certainly didn't know why it mattered. It's not like him and Chan were an actual couple, anyway. It was just some small interaction between his fake-boyfriend and his fake-boyfriend's real ex.
Unconsciously, Felix sighed quietly to himself several times before Chan felt the urge to speak. To get Felix's attention, he gently ran his fingers over the back of the younger boy's small, small hand. He was successful, noticing at how Felix jolted slightly, blinking a few times to refocus himself on the present before looking at the older blond. "Are you okay, Lix?" he whispered. "Is it the nickname because I —"
Before Chan could even finish, he received an instant firm response of Felix shaking his head. "No, that's fine. It's fine," he said. Yet to Chan, Felix's actions indicated otherwise as the younger boy took his hand out of the older's grip.
Before Chan could dwell on it, Jeongin's clear voice spoke up. "Hyunjinnie hyung, I'm surprised you chose camping and not glamping," he said before chuckling mischievously.
He received laughter in response, and a straightforward "Whatever" from the addressed boy. "It's so I can... Focus on other things," Hyunjin mumbled before glancing at Changbin.
"We're here!" Woojin exclaimed not long later. Gosh, here goes nothing.
