"Shit."
I threw the bullet down on the ground, it clinking against the opposite wall to me. The alleyway I was in was much colder than the streets of the night, barely any light getting into the place. I saw the silver bullet roll across the ground as I looked at my fingers. They were stained with a brownish color, the once gold fading into a dried mixture of itself from my shoulder.
I gritted my teeth as I wiped my hand against my pant leg, looking down either side of the alley to the streets. No one was around, no cars mingling through the concrete jungle. I was alone and away from the idiots who had been chasing me before I jumped onto the rooftops to escape.
I was near where Jungkook was located. I was hoping to catch him when he would come out to head back to the hotel, but it felt like time was ticking by slowly. I had no clue what time of night it was, but my shoulder and cuts were nearly healed. An hour or two must have passed at the least with all the action I had endured.
I brought a hand up to my face and pressed my palm against my forehead for a moment with closed eyes. My heart had calmed down along with my pants, but a small fire still remained in my limbs, ready to bounce back forward like there was something watching me. I needed to head out and find Jungkook. I didn't want to leave my oasis of protection, but it was becoming necessary.
With a huff, I got back up to my feet. I wobbled for a moment at how weak my legs felt from all the running, but I managed to regain my balance. A shaky breath escaped me as I headed out towards the street, nibbling at my lip. I was thankful that the men hadn't found me, but it was still nerve racking to know that they were still hunting me down.
My feet made me come into the streetlights, it warmer in that area. I looked around for any bodies that mingled, but there seemed to be none until I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.
I brought my eyes over to a person that stood against a brick wall, their coat off. I couldn't exactly see who they were through the light, but they had a familiar figure and messy hair. I squinted my eyes that way, weary to approach, but I heard a voice come from them quietly. My eyes lit up.
I didn't look both ways on the empty street as I ran towards them. My heard pulsed in my chest, a wave of happiness coursing through me. Something inside me seemed to instantly relax, a small cry and laugh bubbled together to escape my mouth.
Coming closer, I found Jungkook to be standing there, his eyebrows furrowed. Though, as he saw my face, a look of shock came over him, his uptight figure at the moment releasing into something more comforting as he hurried towards me.
"Y/N," he breathed as he jogged towards me, "what are you--?" His words were suddenly cut off as I collapsed into him, taking him into a tight embrace.
"I didn't know you passed by the alleyway," I murmured, my voice a bit choked up. I hugged onto him tighter. "I thought you were still talking."
After a few seconds, Jungkook pulled me away, his eyebrows furrowed with confusion and concern. I caught sight of something dark staining his face down near his throat, it coming through on some of his clothes as well. There was a whiff of iron in the air, which took me off guard a little. It almost smelled metallic, blood even.
"Why are you here?" he asked, looking up and down the street for any signs of life. "You look like you got beat up. Did you find Taehyung?"
"We can't go back," I said, my voice speaking so fast that I couldn't recognize what I was spitting out. "Taehyung's men--they know where our hotel is. They were waiting for someone to walk through the lobby where they were at. I had to run."
It took Jungkook a hot second to process my words, his hand tightening against my bicep. His face slightly drained of its color. "Are you hurt? How did you get here?"
"They shot me in the shoulder, but that's about it," my words came out a bit slower that time but still came fast. "I managed to have enough energy to hop the rooftops here. I lost them on the way." I looked at the stains that still coated him, finding some to be still fresh. "What happened to you?"
"The dumbasses said that they made a final run for Taehyung," Jungkook's voice went low at that, something in his eyes darkening. "That was the last shipment that Taehyung needed. They started to question and that's when I had to start killing or Taehyung was going to find out about us. I managed to get a location that their shipments went, though, from a guy who broke."
"What's the address?" I asked, now begging to head to the sight now. There was no hotel room to go back to, nothing to recover. It was a homestretch now if we needed to get things done and get back all the Defenders and Yoongi and Hoseok.
Jungkook paused at that for a second, his face going grim. He didn't seem like he was begging to go to that location like I was. "It's where the Services is located."
"Wait, they're at the compound?"
"Might be," Jungkook slightly sighed, his hand falling away from my arm. "It would make sense. They have all the materials there for what they need for all of the Defenders. I can't believe we hadn't figured that out yet."
"This changes everything," I murmured, my sudden eagerness to go to the next location falling away. My stomach was dropping slowly. "If they have everyone there . . . "
"I don't know what to do," Jungkook whispered. I could see through his face that he was breaking down slowly at the thought of the compound still overran. "I would go marching straight in, but if they have all the appendixes they need and may have the chance to overpower us, we can't risk just jumping straight into action."
"And we don't have the hotel room to prepare in."
I bit down on my lip for a second, thinking. Through my thinking, I grabbed onto Jungkook's arm, making him look down at me. An idea was coming over me slowly but surely.
"My mutation," I said slowly, something in my stomach starting to churn it, "that could help us out. Big time."
"How?" Jungkook said, raising an eyebrow. "I know you have some serious powers, but I don't think we could take down Taehyung with just them."
"I have a friend," a slow smile was crossing my lips. The idea was coming more and more. "I met them when I was with Hoseok and Yoongi around my first year knowing the two. My friend is a doctor, a great one at that. They had seen a little bit of my powers before and they offered me some help with coping with it at the time because I was having trouble. I declined, but what if they know more than we do about it?"
Jungkook stared at me like I was crazy for a moment, then said, "If this is the only solution we can think of, let's go find them."
