I stepped out of the door into the hall of the apartment building, finding Jungkook to be leaning against the wall. His head popped up at the sound of me coming back into the hall, his eyes lighting up with hope. I gave a small smile, but I was starting to become sleepy. I could see the same with the bags under Jungkook's eyes.
"They said that they'll help us," I murmured, keeping my voice low to not disturb anyone who was sleeping in the building. "They requested to remain nameless, though. Don't ask for any personal information. They're trying to remain off the radar right now for some issues they've gotten into."
Jungkook processed that information for a second, his face going from confusion to thinking to acceptance. He gave a small nod and pushed himself away from the wall, making his way to the door I had cracked open.
Coming into the apartment, we were silent while I closed the door behind us. It was lit with a dim lamp off in the corner, the living room coming first to drift into a kitchen in the back. It was clean and pristine, not a speck of dust anywhere, but there were shelves lined with questionable things in jars that Jungkook's big eyes focused on.
"Is this your guest?"
I looked over to find a person walking out of the kitchen, a hood over their head and a medical mask over their mouth. You could barely see their eyes in the weak light of the room, their voice almost a whisper but also a bit raspy. Jungkook froze as he saw them, a bit taken back at how they seemed to appear out of thin air.
"Yes, it is," I smiled a little, grabbing onto Jungkook's arm and pulling him more into the apartment. I could feel how stiff he was under my grasp, obviously not feeling comfortable. "He knows everything, so it's okay to speak in front of him about me openly."
The person nodded their head, sitting down on the couch. I plopped down beside them, but Jungkook remained standing beside the couch. I pushed up my sleeves a little on my jacket, the room becoming warm with the amount of people in there.
The person seemed to pay no attention to Jungkook, only focusing on me. "After all these years, you want to get to the bottom of your specialties?"
They sounded so plain as they said "specialties" like it was nothing. I liked how it wasn't classified as powers for once. I nodded my head a little as I answered, "Yes. Weird things have been happening with me lately and I want to know why."
The person cleared their throat a little to get some of rough sound to their voice away. It worked a little, but their voice was still the same as before. "I may have some theories after working with you a couple of years ago. I would like you to explain to me what's been happening first so I can narrow some of the theories down."
I explained to them what had happened at both of the warehouses and what I had done that was out of the ordinary for me. I also explained getting cut on my neck, which was now a complete scab. It still was painful, but it was more of a faint ache then. Through my stories, they nodded while processing and Jungkook was looking less tense than we had came in minutes ago.
After I was done storytelling, the person tapped their fingers against their thigh for a second then took in a long breath. "I think you have more abilities than you think you have. With you getting that cut, you seemed to power something much deeper than what you originally have."
"Do you have any idea what it is?" I raised an eyebrow, my brain begging for an answer. I was ready to get back on the road and finish up the job.
"I have plenty of friends from all around the world," the person said, motioning to the jars on the shelves. "They send me things: books, new diagnoses, research they've done, past documents. Though, the past documents can have some interesting reads. I've read a couple that were studies back over fifty years ago that contained similar specialties you have."
"Can we see them?" Jungkook said, piping into the conversation. The person looked up, their eyes settling on him. Jungkook shrank away a little.
With a few promises and secrets, we had the documents in our hands a few minutes later and searched over them with a greed to process all the information in that one sitting. We were silent while reading, the tensity from me and Jungkook powering the room around us.
The two cases we looked at were two young people in their early teens. They had shown signs of something much greater than the rest of the people around them. They both had similar powers: a strength that was too powerful for their age, healing was only in a matter of minutes, play time consisted of them having a much more uncontrollable amount of energy and power than other children; then there was their anger.
They were said to have an anger that was almost unimaginable. They could break everything with ease, they could hurt people left and right, they had even killed others during their rage. There were notes, though, of different spots on their bodies that were much more sensitive than the others, much more susceptible to not healing fast enough; they had an Achilles heel.
Everything was matching up to me perfectly, but they died at a young age from serious injuries to their sensitivities. During the reports of their deaths, they seemed to have channeled something else inside of them. The people who wrote the documents, though, never admitted what happened due to fearing that an evil would come for them.
At that point, my friend started talking again. "With the immediate danger you had the other day, I'm sure you brought only a sliver of that ability out. If the people who wrote these documents were scared to tell of the things they endured, it's bound to be something much more sinister than what escaped you."
The sound of that made a shiver run down my spine. Jungkook's hand grabbed onto my shoulder, him asking, "Is that the only time she's able to channel that? When she's in danger of death?"
"I'm not sure," the person said, shrugging their shoulders. They threw down one of the documents on the coffee table in front of us. "There's really no way of telling unless Y/N tries to do whatever she did then. I don't recommend it, though, because everyone could get seriously hurt if that happens. If the windows broke in the warehouse like you said then there has to be something much worse than that."
"I . . . I need to process this," I whispered, placing my elbows on my thighs and my fingers against my temples. "Just for a couple of minutes."
"Take your time," the person said, giving my shoulder a couple of pats. They got up from the couch and started heading over to the kitchen. "I'll make us some tea. I'm sure as hell that I need it right now."
With what was being thrown into my face all at once, I was positive I was going to need some, too.
