I nibbled on the inside of my cheek, watching my fingers methodically tap the sides of my cup. I couldn't shake off the anxious nerves that pierced through me, reminding me of why I was at the small restaurant. My legs were begging to get up out of the seat in run, but I kept myself seated while suffering through my pain.
"Are you Y/N?"
I turned my head up to see who was there, finding a guy to be looking down at me with a kind smile. He was decently built, had raven black hair that fell into his chocolate brown eyes a little, and had a friendly look to him. If I was being honest, he was a good looking person, some of which I wasn't expecting.
"Uh, yeah," I stuttered for a second. I took my fingers away from the cup and motioned to the other bench in booth in front of me. "You can take a seat if you'd like."
He muttered a thank you towards me, plopping down on the cushioned seating. He started to strip away his jacket, shaking it off his arms. I sat there awkwardly, staring at my drink once more to avoid eye contact with the poor guy.
After him taking off his coat, he pulled a hand towards me, smiling brightly that time instead of the kind one he had on when he came in. "I'm Jungkook. It's nice to finally meet you."
I reached out, shaking his hand in return. I tried to give him a smile, but it didn't feel as natural as I wanted it to be. "Nice to meet you too."
Our hands drew away after a second, Jungkook giving a sigh as he grabbed a menu from the table's edge, flipping it open. He looked at it mindlessly, not seeming to have any interest in it at all. "I've heard a lot about you."
A sinking feeling came into my gut. "You have?" I asked, a little nervous with my words.
Once he heard the tone of my voice, his face popped up, panic rising up. "Nothing bad!" he exclaimed, a nervous smile falling onto his lips. "Just how you're nice and kind to others that you know and that you care for them."
The sinking feeling went away, but I still felt anxious. I grabbed my drink and put my mouth on the straw for a second, swallowing a full of water. I pulled away the drink, saying, "I can be sometimes. I don't understand why I was set up with you. I've heard all nice things about you and I didn't think that someone could have me meet someone that good."
He gave a small chuckle, taking the menu and placing it back where it had come from. "I'm not that knight in shining armor, but you seem like a nice person."
I sucked in a small breath, remembering those words a million times but the person who said it always ditched me for something else and never came back. This was going to be like all those other times.
"I think I'm just going to waste your time," I murmured, gathering up my stuff and placing a few dollars on the table for my drink. "I'm sorry."
"No, stay," he said suddenly, reaching out over the table to my hand that was placing the money down. His hand wrapped around my wrist, keeping it there. I froze for a second, looking up to see him staring at my intensely.
"I want to get to know you," he told me gently, his hand still on my wrist. "You won't be wasting my time. Trust me."
"If you're like everyone else I've attempted to date, then I'm pretty sure I shouldn't stick around," I told him, trying to pull myself away from his grip. He held on, though, but it wasn't intimidating. It was genuine, firm but kind.
"No," he shook his head, "I'm not like the people you've tried to date. I legitimately want to get to know you. Please, Y/N, give me a chance."
I stared at him for a second, thinking. I finally gave in with a sigh, taking my money into hand once more. He took this as a signal that I was staying, his hand snaking back over to him to let my own land on my drink once more.
