"How are you feeling today?"
I looked up from the papers in my hand over to the doorway, finding Jungkook to be standing there with the smile he always came home with. I could see the dark circles under his eyes from the nights of no sleep and the constant hard work he did, but he looked at me like I was the best thing ever, the wonderful person that I never remembered being.
I placed the papers beside me, sitting up completely in the bed. I still felt weak after the weeks that had passed by, but they all said I was doing better and getting stronger. I just needed to keep eating and stay hydrated along with having good self care.
"I'm a bit tired, but that's it," I smiled a little at Jungkook, himself entering the room. I reached my hands over to the papers beside me, my fingertips touching them. "Is this really what I was like before the explosion?"
"Yes," Jungkook said with a nod, plopping down on the bed just at my feet. He peered over at the paper, memories obviously playing behind his eyes. His smile wavered for a moment. "You were like that."
"That's . . . impossible."
Jungkook gave a dry laugh at that, kicking his shoes off his feet. His body was loosening up from his day, the tenseness melting away. "What you could do seemed impossible, but you were still capable of doing so. I remember all the years of trying to catch you and your acts. You always got away somehow."
"You say I saved the day," I said slowly, my voice going quiet. I brought my head back over to look at him, my head cocking to the side in a questioning manner. "If I saved the day, why am I like this now?"
Jungkook paused for a second while kicking off one of his shoes, his eyes staring down at the ground. He was thinking. "I think you used up everything you had to do the good that you never thought you could."
"To do the good . . . "
"Why don't you get some rest," Jungkook said, kicking off his final shoe while giving me an exhausted smile. After doing so, he got back up to his feet and came over to the head of the bed. With a peck on the forehead, he said, "Don't overthink things. You need to recover slowly. You're body has been under so much stress in your life that you need to take things easy for awhile."
I swallowed, giving a small nod of my head. Jungkook started to slip away to go do something around the apartment, but I grabbed onto his hand, keeping him there. He looked over to me, his eyebrows raising as I kept him there with my weak strength for a moment.
"Please stay," I murmured, almost in a pleading way. "I want you to be here with me. Just for a little while."
He smiled at me sweetly at my words, coming back over to slip onto the bed beside me. He gathered me up in his arms, pulling me close. I snuggled closer into him, closing my eyes. The tensity inside my body melted away as I relaxed to fight the growing sleep that was washing over me.
"I promise you that nothing will ever happen to you like that again," Jungkook whispered to me, his chin resting on the top of my head. "Not as long as I'm here."
