Story: An original story that I had planned out, centered around a tumblr drawing I had done of Thomas and friends as pokemon. Wasn't exactly named though...
Creator: Me, but characters by Thomas Sanders
Thomas POV
Ah, what a wonderful day. The sun is shining, the bird Pokemon are tweeting, and- what is that beeping noise? I find my alarm clock and stop it. I just want sleep! I go back to bed, because I like sleeping in. Then I remember. Today was the day some people got to pick their first Pokemon! I jolted upright, and hurriedly did my things. At least my alarm got me up.
I dashed downstairs, grabbing an apple and bolting out the door. I was wearing a red t-shirt with a yellow star on it, and denim pants. Here in the Flohori region, it's often very sunny, but I didn't care because I've been waiting to get a Pokemon ever since I was a kid! When I got there though, my jaw dropped. There was a HUGE line! I'd never get in! And the next time they open is in 2 months! I can't wait that long again. Guess I'll have to wait...It's been 2 hours!
Fortunately the line has cleared up! Oh boy, I'm finally going to get one! Just as the next person leaves, I step inside, excited. I can feel my heart beating quickly. I wonder what I'll get! Here in this region, you can pick from many different starters, unlike in other regions. I walk up to the pokeball table. The professor turns around.
"Oh! Sorry, I didn't see you there, I'm professor Palm! Y-you must be looking for a Pokemon, right?"
I quickly nod my head, smiling.
The professor frowns.
"It's a shame...even though you're the last one, we...have no Pokemon left..."
I feel like my heartbeat stopped.
My smile drops. No Pokemon? This can't be! Do I have to wait again? I don't think I'll be able to stand-
"There may be...an alternate solution though..." He mutters.
I perk up a bit.He walks over to a PC and turns it on.
"There are some...'other' starters, ones who...aren't exactly normal."
I walk over, curious as to what he could possibly mean. In the PC I see only two Pokemon, a snivy and a popplio.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Well...the snivy has a strange...thorny...scale infection, and the popplio...wishes to be referred to as nonbinary. We put them in there because most trainers aren't used to seeing Pokemon make their own decisions like this..."
"Well bring them out then! I'd like to see them!" I exclaim.
The professor clicks a button and a pokeball comes out. He tosses it, and sure enough, the popplio is there. Looks perfectly normal.
"Hey there." I say.
The popplio backs up a bit, as if scared. It eyes me suspiciously.
"Oh no, don't worry, I know about your situation. And I say it's perfectly okay with me!" I say cheerfully.
The popplio brightens up.
"Now, what do you want to name them?" The professor asks.
The popplio suddenly becomes saddened.
"Wh...what's wrong? Do you already have a name? It's okay, I won't judge, we can use that!" I say. I want this popplio to feel welcome, and okay.
"T....Talyn....." A voice mutters quietly.I'm startled by the sound and quickly search for the source.
"Talyn?" I ask.
"You...you can hear me?" The popplio, or Talyn asks.
"Yeah! I don't know how, but it's cool!" I say. "Anyway, that's what it'll be then, Talyn!"
The professor nods, and hands me some more pokeballs and some potions. He also hands me a strange device he calls a 'pokedex'. He gives us a quick explanation of each and then sends us out without another word.
It's noon now, might as well go train I think to myself, eyeing a patch of grass the professor said had Pokemon in it. I dash straight into it without another thought. A wild Pokemon appears, it's a pidgey!I look at Talyn's stats. Talyn knows Water gun and Pound.
"Use Pound!" I shout, and Talyn attacks.
The pidgey's HP drops to about half, but not enough to catch it. After we dodge a "gust", we try again with pound. Unfortunately that knocks it out, but we got some EXP so it's good.
"You're unlike the other trainers." Talyn says to me.
I'm keeping them out of their pokeball for now.
"You're actually...nice and accepting."
"Thanks" I reply, "I've always wanted to help Pokemon that need it!"
The two of us talk and continue to walk the path to the next town.
