"Barry..." called the man in his fifties, "goodmorning"
"Attorney Sal." As he stand up to shake hands and greet his lawyer.
"Hope your ride to here was comfortable. do you want something? Referring to the hotel's menu, " Drinks?" Barry added.
"Not everyday I am fetched by Sikorsky" he chuckles " i"ll do coffee" his lawyer replied.
Barry's butler immediately carried out the caffeine drink of the lawyer.
Attorney Sal knows Barry since he was four years old. He is associated by being one of his uncle Hugh's trusted circle of friends. The lawyer personaly handles all of Barry's business and personal transactions despite founding and owning a firm well known in Southeast Asia.
Their relationship transcends, business transactions. Loyalty, matters to both men, and that is what they've earned from each other trough the years. He knows that Barry is not fond of long talks. Updates were immediately given to the man sitting on his suite's conference room.
"I've just personally coordinated with the family of the truck driver, Mr. Solis and Ms Sperbund."
Barry listens.
"Since Mr Solis is out of critical stage. We gave him $40,000 as compensation excluding hospital bills. His wife is grateful for your generosity. Per your advice, we've also considered having Mr Solis's trucking employer to get their service. Everything is settled from their end."
"Ms Sperbund is another case."
Barry, adjusted his seat and leans slightly forward.
Atty. Sal, was surprised of Barry's body language.
"Her only family is her 10 year old brother, Aunt, and 2 cousins. One is currently in Highschool and the other is in college. Ms Sperbund and his brother lives separately from their aunt. Her only source of income comes from Stark Real Estate."
"Stark?" Asked Barry
"Yes, by Johnny"
Barry just nodded, prompting the lawyer to continue.
"Now that she is not working, their debts and loans caused by her Stepmother will definitely takes it toll. .."
Barry holds the bridge of his nose
"Barry, its not enough that we give her the money.. "
"By how much?" Referring to the girls debts.
The lawyer answered, "$1.5 Million"
"You are kidding right?" Barry was flubergusted. "How can she pay that when she is only earning $2,000 per month?"
"That's the thing..." said the attorney.. "she only pays the interest".
Barry nodded, "pay all her debts and loans.."
Barry stand up and shrugged...
"Barry" called the lawyer..
Barry turned around.
"It's not enough that we give them money.."
"Why is that?" Barry asked. "His case is not far different from Santos, the truck driver"
The lawyer take a sip from his coffee and answered, "Mr. Santos, has a family, has a wife who will take care of him. Money will just lessen their worries. Ms Sperbund only got his 10 years old brother. Her aunt is not capable to take care of her and her brother. She got daughters who are still studying.."
"I see no problem" said Barry. "Sign her daughters to my foundation for scholarships".
"We can do that" said the lawyer..
"Why do I feel that there is a but after that..." Barry shakes his head.
"More than the money, we have a social obligation to this girl. You need to take care of her..."
"What?" Asked Barry "I'll just hire a care giver"
"Your uncle.."
"Here we go..." says Barry
"Hear me out Barry... "
Barry stood still. No matter how much they argue, he values the suggestions and opinion of his Attorney.
"Your uncle, would also do his best to look out for these families. Knowing him, he will definitely look after these people. More than giving them the money... do this for Hugh"
Barry just sighed, and process what his lawyer advises..
Atty Sal just looked at Barry. Atty. Sal, is taking a kilometers forward. A gamble. He knows Barry. He knows that he always say No to ideas that will not give him the power to control. And asking him to take care of a girl in coma and a ten year old boy is too much... if not only for his best friend.. for Hugh.
The attorney was surprised when he saw him slightly nod..
"Is that a yes?" He followed up.
Silence..
"Yes"
