Chapter 56
Annabeth
Annabeth studied her maps again. By her calculations, they would arrive in Greece today. In some ways, she hoped she was right. In other ways, she hoped she would never go to Greece.
She slumped where she sat on the couch. Her map was so full of little notes about what happened at what place that she could barely see the cities anymore. She folded up a map and looked at her untouched one. Maps and blueprints cover the couch around her.
“Hey, Annabeth, what’s up?” Leo gestured to the mess.
“I’m working,” she snapped. She was in a bad mood from her many nights of restless sleeping. She sighed tiredly. “Sorry, Leo, I’m worried.”
Leo grinned. He asked, “About Greece?”
She nodded. “I’m so nervous.” She continued to sketch out another blueprint for a temple for Artemis. Her eyes flashed to Leo’s still form. “Are the clouds going to fade soon? What about the rain?”
“Easy,” he cautioned. “I don’t know. Do I look like a weatherman to you?”
Her cheeks warmed slightly. “Well, you act like you could do anything, so I just merely assumed you knew the weather.”
“Enough, guys,” Percy said, having a thumb war with Piper. “I’m trying to win here!”
“You’re having a thumb war?” Leo asked, his brow pulling together. “I wanna play!” He catapulted himself into Percy and Piper, sending all three of them sprawling onto the floor. All three of them landed on each other.
“Thanks, Leo,” Percy muttered. “I think I just lost.”
“Did that mean I won?” Piper asked.
Leo, who was sitting on the both of them, smiled. “No, I won!”
“So, when are we getting to Greece, Annabeth?” Hazel asked quietly. “All of us know you’ve been calculating.”
All eyes turned to study Annabeth’s face. She sat up and brushed a strand away from her face. She shuffled her papers, cleared her throat, and said, “By my guess, we’ll arrive in a few hours.”
“Like, today?” Frank asked slowly. “You’re saying we’re going to get to Greece, our last destination, today?”
“Yeah,” Annabeth said with a nod. “Don’t worry; we’ll have to rest and train. It may take a while, anyways.”
“How long will ‘a while’ be?” Jason asked.
“Maybe a few weeks,” Annabeth guessed. She leafed through her pages to look for something to distract her. “We really need to get our energy back.”
The others nodded. While they spoke quietly to each other, Annabeth’s eyes closed.
When her dream began, she was confused. There was nothing but rubble around her. Fires raged around her. There were screaming and crying. Who was it coming from?
“Annabeth, help me!” Percy was grabbing his elbow, his face covered with soot, dirt, and blood. “She’ll get us both! Please, Annabeth!” He held out his hand.
