"Since when are you two so close?"

America hummed in confusion from his seat at the lunch table. He and Russia were sat next to each other, chatting and laughing with each other like good friends. Germany stood just in front of the table, confused, but pleased with what he saw.

"I'm not sure what you're talking about? We're just talking about some old cartoons we used to watch," Russia said.

"Yeah yeah! Like, there's this one that Russia had, with this little bear-child-koala thing! And it was called ch--uh...chebush--chubbyrush..." America attempted to say, before Russia helped him out.

"Чебура́шка(Cheburashka)*. My siblings and I grew up watching it while we lived under USSR."

"I see," Germany said.

Japan soon sat with them, and sent an alarmed and confused look at Russia's presence. He didn't notice, though, as he was too engrossed in his conversation with America.

Japan leaned over and whispered to Germany, "What did I miss? Since when are they so close?"

"Probably since Ame spent all that time avoiding Russia for the game, only to tease him all day long over social media. Guess they managed to let the friendly competition get to them."

"Huh. Surprising. He better not replace me as his best friend, though."

"Don't worry, I have my money on a different title for Russia," Germany mumbled.

"Hah? What's that?"

"I'll tell you later," Germany said simply, leaving Japan whining at the notion that there was something she wasn't part of.
She eventually left him alone when South Korea sat down with them.

Russia looked around, "Hey Meri, where's your brother?"

"Canada? I haven't seen him since my second period. He's probably hunting for you." America smirked, bring his spork up to eat a piece of his orange chicken.

Russia shuddered, reminding America to regret betting on him. At this point, he was going to lose $10 to his teacher. His teacher!

"Uh, I'd go looking for him, if I were you. I can help you look for him."

"Really? Isn't it kind of wrong to go against your brother?"

"Trust me, as family, it'd be wrong if I sided with him. I'll help you, c'mon."

So he and Russia threw away the rest of their lunch and left. As soon as they were gone, Germany word-vomited all over the table.

"OKAY! So lately I've been kind of seeing them get friendly, and I thought it'd be cool if they were friends, but then they got really friendly, so I had the crazy idea, 'Hey! What if they dated!' And so I've been spending the last two weeks trying to get them together, and I think it's finally working!"

He took a breath while the rest of the group took the time to think about his words. Japan nearly jumped out her seat.

"WHAT? You mean even when America was with me?!"
