"I'm sorry Mr. Overland...she didnt make it."

Those words were daggers into his heart. His body felt like it was failing him, his stomach lurched and he knew that he was going to be sick. His breath was gone and all he could think of was her face. That same face that smiled at him everyday, that same face that he wanted to see every morning and every night. His hands shook and he stood from the blue chair outside of the ER. Anger was first.

"No..no..you’re lying." he growled, his hands closing into fists. "She cant be…cant be…" he couldnt even utter the word.

"Mr. Overland, I understand that this is a tragic loss for you but did she have any next of kin to notify?" the doctor said, his eyes were filled with remorse. This was the worst part of his profession.

"No, there was only me." he said softly, the reality setting in and his eye stung as his vision blurred. He hadn’t cried since his sister passed. Good, he lost both of them. "This cant be happening.." The pain of his loss racked him and he punched the white wall of the hallway, startling the doctor.

"Jack, please, you’re being irrational about this." he could hear the cars in the background, "Flynn is only helping me get my name out there, nothing more."

"So that’s why he invites you to his condo at eight o clock at night, Punz?" he said into the receiver, pacing his bedroom. It was already ten and she wasn’t home. Visions of sex and adultery passed his mind and he felt his jealousy rise.

"It was the only time he could see my portfolio, he’s a busy man, Jack."

"Is there something youre not telling me?" he asked, his voice filled with suspicion. She gasped in his ear.

"Are you kidding? i have never said a word about your secretary Elsa but now that Ive been given an opportunity by a semi-attractive guy, you think I’m cheating?"

"Oh so he’s attractive now?"

"God, you’re so childish!"

"I’m guessing Flynn is just the right amount of man you need then."

"I was going to stop by tonight but I’m going home. I cant deal with you right now."

He heard a tires screeching in the background and screams, his eyes widened, “Rapunzel?” he said.

"What, Jack? I dont—"

Another scream and the line went dead.

Jack leaned his head against the cool wall, his heart felt like it was being ripped from him. He punched the wall again, taking calming breaths. His last words to her was out of jealous rage, acting like an idiot. She was too busy arguing with him, not even paying attention as she crossed the street to her car. He got the call not soon after. He had prayed that she had dropped her phone when she jumped back. But no, that was wishful thinking. he rushed to the hospital while they tried stabilize her. She had severe head trauma, broken rips that punctured a lung, broken bones and slowly drowning in her own blood.

He was told this by the nurse. The doctors solemn face told him the reality of the matter before he even opened his mouth.

"Can I see her?" He asked softly. The doctors eyes widened,

"It is not a very pretty sight, Mr. Overland, i dont think you—"

"I want to see her now!" the broken hearted man yelled. It echoed down the hall and had nurses turning their heads in surprise. The man ran a hand through his brown hair, taking a deep breath, "I need to say g-goodbye." his voice cracked.
