Prologue

She couldn't wait for her day to begin at the company. Even though she had been working there for a couple years now, the atmosphere always kept her high on happiness. Lucy Heartfilia was one of the best writers at Fairy Tail Dreams Inc. and was determined to best herself every time she submitted new work to the company. Her department supervisor, Erza Scarlet had nothing but good things to say about her, because of that they held a close relationship between each other, the way sisters were attached to each other.

Her best friend, Levy McGarden, who was in the same department, seemed a bit scared of Erza although Lucy had always tell her that there was nothing to be scared. Today was extra special for her because today was her 24th birthday. She had never been fond of birthdays. Growing up after her mother had died, her father had thrown himself into his work, as a top lawyer with his own firm the work had always been there and more.

Lucy's father always wanted her to become a lawyer herself and work for him but she never took to this dream; she wanted to write, to make people happy. She had finished her law degree but went on to study literature. She excelled in at everything she did, was at the top of her graduating class. She learned to like birthdays and celebrating them because the company was adamant about keeping employees at the heart of everything.

She walked into the office with streamers; balloons and cake already out to make a party. She looked around at everyone who were all smiles, everyone walking up to her to give her a hug for such a momentous day. She was so happy she could cry but she didn't want to ruin her mascara she so carefully put on that morning. Congratulations were only for a moment but the fun would resume after work hours where everyone could partake in the enjoyment.

LATER.....

Everyone gathered in Fairy Tails official party room - according to their boss, Igneel Dragneel - where everyone was so happy to celebrate Lucy's birthday. Cake, music and games where always the center of the celebration. The decorations where pink and yellow, everyone called them Lucy's colors. Everyone danced, sang and drank more than they can handle. No one took into account that tomorrow would be another day and that it would hurt; her coworkers had a tendency to overdo it when it came to fun and work but that's why she loved the company so much.

She had found her home, where no one knew about her degrees and background, they only knew Lucy Heartfilia. She walked over to the punch bowl where she had a feeling that it was spiked with rum like her high school prom. She noticed a certain pink headed man shadowing in the corner away from the chaos. She walked over to him,

"Are you okay?" she looked at him, not knowing what to think.

"Yeah, I'm alright," he stuck out his hand "I'm Natsu and you are?"

She took his hand, "Lucy Heartfilia."

"Aww, the birthday girl" he gripped her hand and dragged her closer to him without even realizing it, he brushed his lips against hers before protesting what he had done she could feel his hands lingering over her butt and smashed his lips against hers. She pushed against him to let her, when he let her go he smiled a drunken smile,

"You taste really good birthday girl," he hiccuped.

She balled up her fist, when it connected with his stomach he didn't do much as flinch at it for being drunk but she didn't care.

"You're a major jerk. You don't just walk up to a girl and kiss her like that. What's wrong with you?" He walked away before she could finish, looking back at her, "you're weird."

She looked at him with utter fury but she would let this asshole ruin her evening much less on her birthday. She turned around to walk hearing only the sound of his chuckle, she was determined to enjoy the party not letting him put a damper on her mood.

Levy walked over to Lucy. "Where did you disappear to Luce? We were worried when we saw you MIA*."

"I'm okay, I just went to the bathroom." Liar.

"Oh. Come one Gray and Juvia wanted to see you, they just got here said they working overtime."

Lucy winked, "I hope the desk didn't break from all the overtime they're putting in." Levy laughed and blushed from Lucy's inappropriate comment.

"I saw that, you know. I know that you aren't drunk either, Natsu." Erza looked her cousin mischievously.

"I didn't even know you got back from your temper tantrum. Veronica* has been good to you or was it the kiss you gave Lucy?" Erza inquired.

He smiled, "Dad has been requesting for me to come back to the company, said he wanted a vacation and it wasn't a temper tantrum, I wanted to draw and he wanted me to run the company." He was serious this time.

"I gave him an offer he couldn't resist in exchange for me to come back." Natsu smirked.

"Oh, what was this offer that my very childish uncle couldn't refuse?" Erza was curious, her uncle may be childish but he was set in his ways. He wanted it the way he wanted, that's way Natsu left. He was probably having the time of his life in Veronica.

"I told him that I would come back if I could illustrate for the writers." Natsu's pride showing at his negotiation skills.

Erza was shocked, "He gave in that easily?"

"No. In exchange to illustrating, I would run the company but he didn't mind that I wanted to run it from the shadows but he wanted me to illustrate for only one writer to keep me focused on running the company." He didn't really mind, at least he could draw for someone.

"He told me to come down to meet the writers and take my pick of the crop. He never mentioned that there was going to be a party. Gramps said it wasn't really his thing to butt in on the celebration as the boss, he just sponsored the parties. It seems she's the only one with a birthday on this day, though. Seems she's special or lucky."

Erza smiled, glad that he came back, "choose well little cousin."

"Erza," she looked back at the man who called her name "it was the kiss."

He smiled and walked away. 'Maybe Lucy will be good for that ego of his, bring him back to earth for us, maybe. Just don't break her Natsu, I like this one.'

She looked over at the delicate blonde laughing with friends, 'then again she might be the one doing some breaking of her own.' Erza hoped for the both of them for some reason, destiny or fate.
