A/N - There was an idea... to bring together a group of people who could do what we couldn't... Wait! No, this is not the Avenger's Initiative. I don't own that either. This is just a little something that has popped into my head recently so I'll try to not take too long to write the next 10 parts. :) thanks for putting up with my writing experimentations. ~ Mione AKA Julie

"Mark my words, Blackbourne... YOU do NOT want to mess with me."
Owen looked up, rubbing his hands over his face. "But who are you? How in the world could I mess with you, sir?" He was alone in the room.
"Your latest assignment is a nuisance to me and I'm telling you now that you will not succeed."
"We were tasked to do a job." He protested. "There's something going on at Ashley Waters and it's getting in the way of good kids getting an education."
"I need to see that place burn." The voice was deep and if he thought about it long enough, it was being modulated to distortion. "There will be pain."
"My team is prepared for the consequences."
"Your team." The voice scoffed. "Don't you mean your family? Tsk, tsk Blackbourne, you're getting far too mechanical about how you're dealing with things. Your precious Academy will no longer find you worthy if you fail to keep your family first."
"My family is always first." And they were too, he was here at this so-called meeting for their benefit because he'd been told it was regarding important details for their assignment. But he wished he'd brought Sean along. Stupid of him really, to ignore the basic things like the buddy system and rule of two. Perhaps if he'd had two cell phones on him today it would have been safer.
"We shall see how strong your family is. The test is coming..."
"That's rather cryptic. Could you be more specific?" He said, dryly.
"There's going to be a girl... she could make you or break you."
He rolled his eyes. "Whatever. We're about to be in contact with hundreds of girls. How would we know which ones?"
"I said a girl. Not nine. One. To borrow from a favored movie or two... One girl to rule them all and may the odds be ever in your favor, Blackbourne."
Owen blinked into the emptiness and tilted his head. "Again, how will we know?" he repeated, his mind racing over how in the world that would turn out. One girl? The nine of them? His heart sank, surely this would be the thing to break them. He was hoping, so many hopes against hopes, that this assignment would fix them. That they'd come back together as one of the best teams in the Academy but lately, he wasn't so sure.
One girl could certainly do them all in.
There was an odd, mechanical yet ominous chuckle. "You'll know..." the voice rasped. "The first time any of you meet her, you won't be able to refrain from bursting out into song. Now leave."
Owen soon found himself outside, blinking at the harsh Charleston sun. Now what? Did he warn his team about the girl that they'd find themselves singing to? He almost wanted to see it. He was certain he would not be breaking into song any time soon, but it would be rather humorous to see North singing. He pulled out his phone and dialed. "Sean..."
"What's up, my bestest friend in the whole world?"
"We have a problem."
