10 : a night in virgil's bedroom

As soon as Patton walked through the door, he hugged Virgil tightly. They invited Logan too, but he decided to stay at home and try to sleep early.

Virgil's room was messy, but not the worst, so they sat on his bed and sighed at the same time.

"How are you doing?" Virgil asked sadly.

"I wish I could say good," Patton laughed dryly. "I can't believe this is happening."

"Me neither."

Jennie walked into the room and laid in between Patton and Virgil, nudging Virgil's face with her nose gently. Patton squealed and pet her excitedly. She almost took their minds off the situation.

A few minutes later, she left the bed and Virgil got up only to close the door of her crate in the living room after kissing her goodnight.

Then he flopped down next to Patton again.

"It could be any of us, and that's the scariest thing," Virgil said quietly.

"Yeah," Patton muttered. "I trust it's not you or Logan. Maybe it's not even Remus."

"Like, what if it was someone who didn't know Roman? And did it just because? Because that could happen, but I dunno."

Patton nodded and the room fell silent again.

"Uh, are you hungry?" Virgil asked to break the silence. "Do you want a snack or a drink or something?"

Patton hesitated before replying, "No, I think I'm fine."

"Oh, okay."

"Um, are you okay?" he asked after he watched Virgil shift uncomfortably. "I mean, probably not because of everything that's happening but you seem to started feeling more uncomfortable?"

Virgil turned red. "Uh..."

"You can talk to me." Patton smiled at him and held his hand. "You don't need to be nervous with me."

"I just- I-I think this is a bad time."

"I mean, yeah. A lot's happening right now, but you aren't alone. I'm always going to be here."

"I- That's not what I meant. Um, I mean, it's a bad time for me to say what I'm going to say..."

"What do you mean?"

Virgil diverted eye contact. "Patton? Can I tell you something? And you have to promise me this won't ruin everything."

Patton dropped Virgil's hand. "You killed Roman?!"

Virgil's eyes widened. "What?! Oh my God, no! That's not what I'm talking about!"

"O-Oh, sorry!" He flushed. "Then what were you going to say?"

"U-Uh, it doesn't matter anymore!"

Patton put an arm around him. "Please? I promise you it's not a bad time. It's not like our friendship is going to be destroyed."

"Uh, Patton. What if, uh, I told you I love you?" Virgil's voice got softer with each word.

"Well, I love you too!" Patton grinned. "You're one of my best friends, and you know that."

Virgil squeezed his eyes shut. "No, I mean, what if I told you I'm in love with you?" he choked out.

"Oh."

They both looked opposite directions, but Virgil was the one hiding his face by burying it in his knees. Guilt filled Patton's body as he tried to think of a good response to his anxious best friend.

"I'm sorry," was the only thing he could say.

"It's okay," Virgil said gently, trying to laugh it off. "S-Sorry, I made it weird."

"No, you didn't." He held his arms open, hoping he could give Virgil a hug.

Slowly, Virgil entered his embrace.

"I'm not going to drop you. Anyone who would turn down being your friend is stupid. Just because I... Virgil, you'll find somebody."

"Just forget about it," Virgil muttered. "Forget I said anything."

"Hey, it's okay."

The younger one simply grunted.

Patton kissed his head and cheek. "I don't think you're weird. I love you, and I'm never gonna leave even if you think I will."

Virgil looked at Patton, pupils dilated and obviously trying not to look at his lips. "Okay."

"Do you want to go to sleep or do you want to do something?"

"I could use some sleep, I guess."

"Great."

Patton got up and went to the light switch to turn it off. The last thing he saw before the room was dark was a picture of their friend group with Roman aggressively ripped apart from the rest of them.
