(a/n: this is not the last chapter. there is more to the story. do not skip to the end of this chapter or the end of the book, because i will be explaining every small detail at the very end, including a playlist inspired by the story that i listened and added to throughout the writing process.

and! do NOT go back to earlier chapters to spoil anything for any newer readers to see. if i see any spoilers, your comment will be deleted. don't ruin the fun and the theories, please!!)

Logan stared at the ceiling as he laid in bed, doing breathing exercises. He would be teaching again soon. Roman's ring was on his desk across the room.

One, two, three, four, five, six, sev-

A text from Declan.

Declan: Logan, you're in the clear. Come to the station as soon as possible. You're officially no longer a suspect.

But Logan was the only one of the four who received that text, so to the station he went, the ring on the chain against his chest.

While driving there, he felt nothing but his longing for Roman, as usual. He could almost feel Roman's presence in the passenger seat, but he drove on, knowing at this point it wasn't real.

That it was fake.

Maybe he didn't need to move on, but he needed to move forward.

Love shot him in the chest, into his heart, and left him on the ground. His lungs malfunctioned, and he pulled over in an instant, putting a hand over his mouth and trying to hold back.

But he had to bend over, his head in his hands, as he tried to breathe.

The case had gone on for so long, it felt so strange for it to be nearly over. And he was no longer a suspect. He was in a cage for so long. He knew that no matter who the murderer really was, he would be hurt all over again, and he didn't know how much more pain he could take.

After drinking some water and finally cooling off, he got back on the road as normal as he could.

At the station, he shook hands with Declan and signed off so he could be actually removed from the case. Shortly after, Declan led Logan to his office and played him the audio recording.

"Haven't you shown Remy yet?" Logan asked, trying to stop tightening his jaw. He didn't want to believe what he heard.

The conclusion wasn't set in stone quite yet, but it was getting pretty damn close.

Too close.

"Remy's still recovering. I want to give him time..." Declan replied. "This will destroy him. This is the one time I wish I was wrong. I know Remy's going to freak, and won't be able to live with himself."

"I know that that would help him, but now is the time. He needs to see this too so you can be absolutely sure."

Declan paused for a long moment. "Right."

Logan was right.

"This was his too."

Remy's memory of the day in the woods haunted him in the hospital. He remembered everything so clearly, and he wished he hadn't.
