"Virgil, be honest with me," Patton said out of the blue.

"Huh?"

"I think you know what I'm talking about."

Virgil stiffened and shook his head. "I-I don't. Patton, what's happening?" The two were just casually hanging out in Patton's house. Again, Logan couldn't make it because he wanted time alone.

"Before you start yelling and freaking out... Let me just explain, okay?"

"What?" Virgil's heart was nearly beating out of his chest.

"Why were you so sure me and Logan didn't kill Roman?"

"How is that a question? Because it's Remus! We all know it's him!"

"But is it really?"

Virgil furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean? A-Are you accusing me of killing Roman?!" He stood up and threw his hands over his head and forced himself to look away. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

"Virgil! Listen! I want to believe it's not you-"

"So why do you believe it's me?"

"You were so calm when you were comforting me, and you were so sure it wasn't me or Logan, and you have a reason to-"

"I have a reason to kill my best friend, is what you're saying! Really, Patton! Logan's never loved someone that much in his life so he wouldn't do that shit, and I trust that you'd never do something like that either because I fucking love you! It's Remus, don't you get it?"

And Patton looked at the floor. "I-I'm sorry. I think I'm just going crazy. I'm sorry."

"I've been trying to stay calm and cool because I want to make sure you're safe!" Tears began to spill from Virgil's bloodshot eyes. "Someone else could die because I was too scared the night Roman was killed to fight and see who it was, and if someone else is going to die, it's sure as hell not going to be you! You're always there for me, but now that I'm the one being there for you, you think I murdered a guy! Thanks!"

"No! Virgil, that's- I- No! I just-"

Patton didn't know how to continue.

"It's fine... if you think it's me," Virgil said finally. He had calmed down, but he hadn't stopped shaking. "I get it. Whatever. I don't give a shit."

"You're lying, I know you are. Quit saying you don't care when I know you do. You don't have to save me."

He brought his knees up to his chin and sighed. "You want some fruit or something?"

Patton was getting better from his relapse and could eat almost normally again. "Sure..." He knew trying to bring up the previous situation again would throw his best friend into a panic attack.

He still had a lot of evidence against Virgil, but he couldn't bring it up. He wouldn't dare.

It wasn't Virgil.

Detective Seymour insisted it wasn't Virgil.

"It's not him. It's Logan. It's so painfully obvious that it's-"

Joan slammed the door open with a gun in hand. The gun they were all searching for.

The gun found in a hidden compartment in a certain suspect's car.

A Charter Arms 38 Special.

"It's Virgil."
