The sun was at its highest today, blazing on everyone and then suddenly temperatures drop due to the seasons changing in the year. Patience became hostile and distant from everybody she knew because she felt like she was all alone in the situation that she was in. She kept things to herself, didn't say anything to anyone, just nodded, and shook her head to communicate with others. The white mutant lizard packed up what she can, ready to obey the man that killed her brother. Now that she sees what Sam is capable of, she is going to follow rules and do what he says. She's now too afraid to stand up to him.
Sometimes she shook in the places she stood in because she kept replaying that violent and unforgettable moment with Casey and Sam. Her hands trembled, knees shook underneath her, swollen red eyes, puffy cheeks, and chest hurt sometimes too. Pay packed up some of the old weapons she used to use when the infection first began. She found a dull pocketknife, boxes of ammo that didn't match any guns she owned, canned food that she wouldn't eat, and some old first aid kit supplies. The lizard stuffed her belongings in a box that April and her men passed around so that they could be transported to Sam's community when he comes back.
Pay's boyfriend, Roan, the dark-skinned mutant lizard walked by her tent and had seen her setting the box down on the ground. She stood outside of the tent and lowers her chin to her chest. Roan comes up to her and did what he could to let her know that she is still alive for a reason. A very good reason. He didn't want her to be upset but understood she had the right to be upset after her brother's death. Now she lives with a memory that she can never get rid of.
The male lizard touched Patience's shoulder to provide her some kind of comfort-- she rejected his gesture and retreats back into her tent. Her boyfriend, Roan sighed and felt awful about what had happened.
While Patience cried over Casey, Roan went back to his own tent to let his feelings out.
Patience was not the only one who lost someone. Zayn and Roan lost their friend, and many others in the community lost one of the few people that lost their lives. Whoever mourned couldn't help but drain themselves of body fluid.
Roan paces back in forth inside his tent, feeling this terrible tension rise within him. He could hear everyone outside packing their things up for Sam, some weeping, a few hollering and hooting, and then there is Roan having a nervous breakdown.
The young mutant thought back to his old friend, Terrance the mutant wolf who died on a supply run a while back. Roan still feels guilty to this very day because he believes that he is responsible for his friend's death and had to be the one to tell four mutant wolf pups that their father died.
Now that Nathan is dead, he feels that it is his fault for getting him killed because if he never launched out at Sam that night, Sam would have never chosen another victim to kill.

If I had just done what the man said! If I would have followed what he said then Nathan would still be alive! I feel so hurt inside and guilty for this. It's all my fault. I can't take this anymore. First, it was my friend Terrance and now his kids have no father to watch after them. Now my best friend is dead. Nathan is dead!
I can feel silent blame being chucked at me by the people who knew Nate and loved him. I know I did this. I know I did! I got Nate killed! I take the blame because it makes sense and... and I didn't listen.
