"What's up with you anyway?" The guy behind the wheels asks, a bemused expression settling on his face. I recognize the guy at the passenger seat, Mark Davis. He'd been my science project partner back in eight grade, and was quite responsible for the first and only capital F I'd gotten in my entire life
"It's you again" I say flatly, and through gritted teeth, might I add.
"If it isn't Jenna Dork. How's your nerdy life coming on? You seem to be doing just fine" I make to lash out at him, but then realize that this van may be my only chance at getting to school.
"I'm stranded" I say politely, adjusting my glass lens and peering at the guy behind the wheels. "Can I get a ride to school. It seems you're heading to WCU" I hear Mark snort, but my focus is deeply rooted on the guy behind the wheels. He stares right back at me, and in that brief moment, our souls connect.
"Well, hop into the back of the van as quickly as possible. I don't want to be seen driving around with your type of girl" he says, fixing his gaze ahead "I have a reputation to uphold" The guys in the van burst into laughter, and I couldn't feel any more conflicted than I already felt. I smile, because it's the only way I can keep from crying.
"Yeah, sure. Good call. I wouldn't wanna be seen in an old rickety van that definitely suits your class and standards anyway" His fists tighten around the steering wheel, and his expression turns cold. Instantly, I know there is something more to this van than he could ever let on.
"Get in" he says finally, breaking the tension that had crept into the air.
