CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT
———————————
"So you knew?." Is all I ask Luke who finished explaining to me why he was here. Apparently he knew of Julia's cancer, before the first day of school Luke's mum had become extremely sick, not with cancer thank goodness, but bad enough to land her in the hospital.
The same hospital we're in now and he just so happened to have seen Mitchell. Crying outside the hospital. Let's just say that from that day on Luke's mind about Mitchell changed and he just pretended to hate him for my sake and because I'm his best friend.
Luke nods his head as he takes a sip of his coffee "for a very long time."
"Then how come you didn't say anything?." I ask him.
Luke shrugs "because I wanted you to get to know Mitchell truly and not force yourself to like him because his grandma has cancer." He answers and I nod, his reason makes sense and he's right, I would of forced myself to like Mitchell and be nice to him for the sake of his sick grandma.
I take a small sip of my coffee as the sounds of people chatting in the hospital cafe fills my ears. I didn't want to leave Julia just in case anything happens, so we decided on the hospital cafe. Luke got a coffee and a carrot cake while I just got a coffee, it seems to be the only thing I feel like nowadays.
"This is a nightmare." I mumble, not believing this whole thing. I want to wake up from this bad dream and go back to where everything was okay. With a few changes here and there.
"Well no one said life was easy." Luke tells me and I nod my head in agreement.
"I don't know what to do Luke." I inform my best friend "Mitchell is so heartbroken and I don't know how to make him feel better, I don't like him all sad and stuff." I tell him honestly.
"Just give him time Faye-." He begins "he's going to lose his grandma and even after she's gone, he's still going to be in pain. Just be there for him, he just needs a shoulder to cry on and a person to talk to." He explains before giving me a small smile.
He's right, I just to be there for Mitchell and his family, giving them a shoulder to cry on and person to talk to whenever they need it. I wish this was a nightmare and soon, I'll wake up with me and Mitchell friends and Julia at home, safe and healthy, but no. As Luke stated no one said life was easy, but I bet we all wish it was.
"Faye?." Luke says, gaining my attention.
I look up from my coffee "yea?."
"Try not to worry too much about it, okay?." He asks and I nod my head in reply.
But how can I not?
