CHAPTER FORTY FIVE

————————————

"Haven't you guys ignored each other enough?." Luke asks, searching the halls with his eyes, keeping watch for Mitchell, so that way if he comes this way, I can bolt. It wasn't that I'm ashamed of the kiss, I so badly want it to happen again, but what if he regrets it? What if the next time he talks to me, he tells me that the kiss was a mistake and that it never should of happened? All of these questions go through every girl's mind and I'm no exception.

I roll my eyes "I have a good reason." I tell him, defending myself as I quickly grab my books from my locker and shoving them in my bag. From the corner of my eye, I see Luke roll his owns, clearly thinking my excuse is stupid.

"Why would he kiss you if he was just gonna think it was a mistake?." Luke questions, clapping his hands to further his point. After closing my locker and zipping my bag back up, I begin walking in the direction of my classroom, soon I hear Luke catching up with me and matching my pace "you can't ignore him forever, Faye." He tells me.

I sigh "I just don't want to get my heart broken like every other girl." I explain to my best friend.

"And guys aren't any different, you're probably breaking his heart by ignoring him because he probably thinks you regret the kiss." Luke retorts and I feel frustration fill my veins, I didn't think of it that way. I hated Luke for being wise especially in moments like this where I can't defend myself, best friends truly do put you in your place.

"Why are you so eager on me and Mitchell getting together?." I ask him, changing the subject, so I don't have to admit he's right.

"Because I want my best friend happy and if he makes you happen then I don't want you to just date him, I want you to marry him-." Luke begins "and then have kids which by the way, I better be the uncle of otherwise I'll be extremely offended." He finishes and I feel my cheeks flush bright red.

"Kids? Seriously Luke? We haven't even graduated yet." I inform him. I haven't even gotten my grown and cap yet and graduation is only a few weeks away. Goodness, school just goes by too quickly and we always ask for it too, but when the time comes for us to leave, we never want to. Becoming an adult sounds scary and to be honest, I've learnt nothing from high school on how to become one.

After reaching the class we have together, I open the door and Luke and I both walk in. The teacher isn't in yet, so students are just sitting in their chairs either talking to each other or throwing things in the bin like they're playing basketball. Even though I'm not ready to became an adult, I'm still excited to leave school since I don't think I can handle this animal-like behaviour for another year.

"Stop ignoring Mitchell." Luke whispers to me when I sat down as he walks past to his seat. I roll my eyes before looking toward the door, awaiting for the teacher to walk into the classroom so he can start the lesson. However, when the door opens it isn't the teacher that walks in, it's Mitchell and immediately, his eyes meet mine.

It looks like Luke will get what he wants after all since I have no where to escape. Mitchell begins to walk my way, but instead of stopping in front of my desk like I expected him to, he drops a piece of folded up paper on my wooden desk before walking down the isle to his seat. Narrowing my eyebrows, I grab the paper and begin to unfold it, curious as to what's written inside.

We need to talk tonight
- Mitchell

Well, that clearly isn't a good thing. No sentence that has 'we need to talk' ends up being good. I fold up the paper and put it in my bag just as the teacher walks in with a smile on his face and his eyes reflecting excitement. He begins to speak, but I don't listen to his words, I can't, I'm too distracted by Mitchell's note to care about the lesson. This was what I was scared of.

I guess I just have to wait and see.
