CHAPTER THIRTY
———————————
"Mitchell!." I exclaim toward the boy who seems to be walking faster upon hearing my voice, but I wasn't giving up. It's been days since I last heard from him and every time I'd try to talk to him, he'd walk in the opposite direction and ignore me, leaving me confused and annoyed. I quickly grab my backpack and close the car door before locking it up and dashing after Mitchell.
My body moves through the sea of bodies, watching me as I race after the boy who others thought I hated. Nobody has ever seen Mitchell and I talk to one another and even though, there's rumours of us dating; some may not believe it which is why many are probably staring after me as I chase after the hooded figure. Finally I'm able to reach him, to stop him I grab ahold of his arm that is covered by the sleeve of his hoodie.
His eyes carry bags underneath them, his skin looks pale like a sheet of paper and he seems as if he's in pain. He doesn't look like he usually does; the smirk that was once on his features is now replaced by a pain filled frown. Everyone around us stops walking, interested in what's about to happen between the two of us. Maybe me worrying about him wasn't all for nothing. But now instead of worry, I'm scared.
"What happened?." I ask him with worried eyes.
He looks down to the ground "leave me alone Faye." He tells me and immediately, I realise that he didn't call me 'princess' like he usually does. That makes me a little sad since I'm so used to hearing the nickname from his lips.
"No, not until you tell me what's wrong-." I begin to say "you haven't answered any of my calls and I've been worried about you." I tell him honesty. Goodness, who knew that I'd ever care about Mitchell Preston? The one I use to hate so badly.
"You don't have to lie to me, the month is over, you're free to go." He reminds me bitterly.
I narrow my eyebrows at him "if the month is over than I have no reason to lie to you, do I?! Mitchell, what happened to you?." I ask him again, aware of the more people who surrounds us, interesting in what we're fighting about.
Mitchell shakes my hand off his arm "I told you Faye to leave me alone!," he exclaims before turning around and walking away from me, but I'm not giving up. I've been worried for days and I finally deserve an answer as to why he's been ignoring me.
"You can't just walk away Mitchell!." I shout his way as I begin to walk behind him, having to walk faster since he's taller than me by a long shot.
"I can and I will!." He retorts.
"So what now? We just forget about this past month as if it never happened and go back to hating each other?!." I ask him, wanting him to say no. I didn't want to go back to the way we were, hating each other without truly knowing each other.
This month I was able to find out who Mitchell truly was, he's a guy who cares about his family especially his grandma. He's annoying, but funny and is there for me when I was in pain and suffering. He truly seems to care about the people he loves and will be there for someone who is in need.
Mitchell turns around so quickly that I got whiplash "yes! Becomes that's exactly what we agreed on! We fake date for a month and I don't tell everyone that you're adopted!." He shouts and a gasp escapes my mouth just like everyone else. Now, it's out; my secret is out and so many people know now since almost half the school is surrounding us.
My eyes wide and my mouth opens wide "I hope your happy, Preston." I spit in his direction before turning around and walking through the bodies and away from him. I can feel everyone's eyes on me as I leave the scene. I knew that it had to come out at some point, but I didn't expect it to happen like this.
I wanted everyone to know when I was ready to tell people. However, that choice was not how to went down. My eyes watch my feet as I walk in the direction of my locker, hoping for this day to go by quickly. Now, everyone is going to look at me differently and begin to ask me questions, many of which I won't have the answer to.
After reaching my locker, I quickly put the combination in before opening up the metal door. Without wasting much time, I replace the books in my bag with the ones in my locker, but the ones I need. The ones I don't remain in there along with the books from my bag. The cold metal door chases the warmth of my hand away as I close my locker shut and begin walking to my first class of the day.
I take in deep breaths with each step I take. I'll be fine, everything will be and as long as people don't ask questions than I should be fine. I can handle the pitiful stares and the curious glances, but the questions would either cause me to snap or cause me to break down in tears and that's something I didn't want to deal with especially in school.
"You got this." I mumble to myself.

A little author note;
I've read the comments and I want to apologise if I've offended anyone or hurt someone by this story. It wasn't my intention and if you want, I can rewrite the chapter or delete it completely. The reason I'm writing this author note is because of the comments. There are a lot of harsh ones, especially directed towards the main male character, that I can understand. He's horrible in this chapter and had said hurtful things. However, they are some comments I'm confused by.
Please don't make harsh comments towards me. He's a fictional character that I created in my early teen years and directing harsh words my way because of him isn't okay and hurtful. You can be mad at the character, books are to make you feel and you'll love or hate some characters. But please don't be mean toward authors.
