CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
———————————
Exhaustion fills my body as my jelly-like legs walk up the stairs to my room. Since graduation is almost here, every teacher has students working twice as hard and giving us our tests to take to see if we can actually graduate and I must say, it's horrible. Happiness floods my body and intertwines with the exhaustion as I reach my room and open the door, ready to jump on to my bed.
But I couldn't because someone's already sitting on my bed. My eyebrows narrow in confusion when I see that it's Mitchell that's sitting on the end of my bed, looking at something in his hands. Mitchell hadn't been at school today, so seeing him in my room is strange and my mind immediately goes to the question of how he got in.
"How did you get into my room?." I ask him and as an answer, he points to the open window and I nod my head, makes sense "what are you looking at?." I question him, hoping for a verbal answer and not just a simple action.
He shows me what he's looking at "is this your birth mum?." He asks as my eyes look to the photo of my birth mum and I. A small smile spreads my lips as I give him a nod as an answer "she's beautiful." He says, looking at the photo once again. A small giggle escapes my lips as I take a seat next to him before taking the photo out of his hands.
"She was." I tell him, looking at the photo closely.
"I never asked how she died." Mitchell states and I take a deep breath. Should I tell him? I mean my birth mother died the same way that Julia will go and I don't want to sadden him anymore.
"Cancer." I answer, deciding that lying to him and not telling him would be horrible especially in his state.
From the corner of my eye, I see Mitchell close his eyes and take a deep breath in. I shouldn't of said anything, it's probably reminding him of his grandma and what she's going though right at this very moment. I place my hand on his, hoping to give him a sense of comfort; his hand is warm and large compared to mine.
"Wanna talk about it?." I ask him.
He opens his eyes and looks at me before shaking his head "I just want to forgot about it, even if it's for a little while." He tells me and I give him a small smile. I don't blame him, everyone tells me of how much Mitchell adores his grandma and I've seen it first hand, so I don't blame him for wanting to forgot about his grandma who's on her deathbed.
"Well, how about we watch a movie-." I suggest "and I'll let you choice just this once."
He chuckles at that before looking down at our hands than back into my eyes "I'd like that." With that, Mitchell and I get comfortable before I grab my laptop and logging on. We browse through Netflix for a few moments and when Mitchell picks one he deems to look interesting, I click on it and we begin watching it, forgetting about everything that's happening on in our lives within seconds.
A few minutes into the movie the silence is broken "can I stay here tonight?." Mitchell asks, sadness seeping into his tone and I look to him with raised eyebrows, wondering why he's asking such a question "I just don't want to be alone." He explains and a small smile graces my features.
"Of course." I tell him as his eyes look into mine. My cheeks flush and I can feel my heart softly beginning to race, my stomach feels all weird and the only conclusion I can come up with about why my body is feeling this is way is because;
I've never had a boy sleepover besides Luke.
