CHAPTER FORTY TWO

———————————

As I pull up to Jordan's house, my eyes scan the front lawn. People are passed out, couples are making out and there are a small few that are vomiting on the grass, however, my eyes stop when seeing two familiar figures sitting on the curb. I stop the car a few feet away from them before getting out and walking to where they are, Luke upon seeing me, stands up while helping Mitchell to stand up too. My heart beats a little when seeing the bruises on Mitchell's face, cuts are on his cheeks, lips and his eyebrows and his left eye is swollen just slightly, but it's noticeable.

"What happened?." I ask with a gasp, when Luke told me about Mitchell getting into a fight; I didn't think it'd be this bad, but than again no one can come out a fight only a little bit harmed. Mitchell doesn't say anything, his eye are droopy and appear to be opening and closing. It's like his eyes have no idea what they want.

Luke shrugs "I don't know, I just heard screaming and the next thing you know I'm watching Mitchell and some random guy wresting on the ground." He tells me and I sigh softly, why did Mitchell and this guy fight in the middle of a party? And who was this guy? Why was Mitchell even at the party?

I nod my head in the direction of my car "we should get him to the car, so I can take him home." I ask Luke as I walk to the other side of Mitchell before putting his arm around my shoulders and with the help pf Luke, we bring him to my car that's only a few feet away. Mitchell groans from the sudden movement.

Silence intertwines with the wind that swirls around us and brushes up again our skin. After getting Mitchell to the car, I open the passenger door with the hand that wasn't helping Mitchell and we gently put him in the seat before bulking him in. His head smacks against the window, not hard, but enough to make me grimace at the impact.

The car door slams close and I turn to Luke with a breath of relief. This isn't how I saw my night going, but it's how it went "thanks for calling me." I say and Luke gives me a small smile "do you need a ride home?." I ask.

"Uh-I actually have ride, so I should be getting back." He tells me and I give him a nod before the both of us give each other a hug, we then say goodbye before heading off in our separate directions. Me going to the car and Luke going back into the party to continue his fun night. Running my hand through my hair, I reach the car and open the driver's side before getting in.

I look to Mitchell and see him gazing out of the window with his eyes slightly closed. I start the car and begin driving toward our houses. From the corner of my eye, I watch Mitchell, wondering if he's okay. He doesn't seem to be okay, I mean it was only recent that he lost his grandma and now, he got into a fight. He hasn't been having the best week.

"Mitchell? You okay?." I ask.

At hearing my voice, he turns his head to face me "Faye?." He questions with his eyebrows raised.

"Hey." I whisper with a small smile.

I return my attention back to the road, but from the corner of my eye, I see Mitchell narrow his eyes at me as if he's taking in every detail of my face and I won't lie, I feel flushed that his eyes are on me. I don't know why, but a weird feeling begun settling in the pit of my stomach as well. What is wrong with me lately?

"Why do you hate me?." Mitchell whispers, but I hear him.

I take a deep breath, he probably won't even remember this in the morning "I don't hate you, I know that now, I just hated how you treated me when we first met and instead of giving you the benefit of the doubt like I should of, I judged you too harshly and that wasn't fair to you." I take a deep breath, readying myself to say the words I never thought I'd say to him ever "and I'm sorry for that."

Wow, that felt so weird to say, but I'm glad I did because;

Mitchell isn't as bad as I originally thought.
