CHAPTER TEN
———————————
Julia is persistent, that's the conclusion I've come to with Mitchell's grandma. She may be old, but she certainly knows how to make you agree to things you didn't want to agree to. I can see where Mitchell gets it from, she found out about my disliking to white roses and used that against me just like her son used my secret against me.
I may have took a liking to his grandma a bit to fast without getting to know her properly. She found out I didn't like the flowers and had used that against me and that is how I ended up here. Julia pulls the car into the parking lot of a breakfast bar which appears to be quiet since there are only a few cars near us. Mitchell, Julia and I all get out of the car and head inside the small building; immediately, I'm hit with the smell of pancakes, eggs, bacon and all kinds of breakfast foods.
We find an empty seat and sit down; Mitchell next to me and Julia across from us. Different situations crosses my mind of how this morning can turn out. I grab one of the menus from the middle of the table, searching through the countless opinions. Is Julia here to question me? Because if so, she had that chance at lunch days ago.
The feeling of someone's eyes on me, burning my skin settles in the pit of my stomach. I look over the top of my menu to see Julia looking over me with a soft smile on her face and with curiosity in her eyes. My cheeks flash red, embarrassed by what is happening; she shakes her head.
"May I ask why you dyed your hair pink?." She asks suddenly and I gulp. She wasn't asking that to be rude or anything, but most people are. To be honest, I didn't know myself. Maybe I wanted a change, I didn't know, but I'm glad I did it; I think I suit pink hair.
I shrug my shoulders "I don't know, I guess I just wanted a change." I answer and Julia nods her head, accepting the answer. But before she can say anything else, she's interrupted by a male waiter stopping at our table with a notepad in one hand and a pen in the other. Oh thank goodness, I knew she was going to ask more questions, but I wanted to put that on hold for as long as I can.
"Welcome to Danny's, what may I get for you?." He asks, seemingly tired. I don't blame him, he probably has to get up early just to get to work on time. I look through the menu one last time and a smile spreads across my face as I think of the food I'm going to receive in a matter of moments.
"Can I get blueberry pancakes with orange juice please?." I tell him.
"And can I the egg omelet with just water?." Mitchell orders next. He didn't even use his manners, how rude!
"I'll just get the same as her please." Julia tells the boy with a nod in my direction. He writes down our orders before grabbing our menus and walking away, leaving the three of us alone. While waiting for our food, Mitchell and Julia talk with each other as I look over the people that are here with us, sitting at their tables eating or talking. A few moments later the same boy arrives with our food and when he reaches our table, he places our orders in front of us.
"Enjoy." He says before leaving us once again.
"So Faye, tell me about yourself." Julia says, breaking the silence as she cuts up her pancakes. Where do I begin? Do I tell her the basics like my favourite colour and favourite foods, well she did tell me to tell her about myself. Maybe this is why Julia wanted me to join them for breakfast, to get to know me and I don't mind that. I'm just not telling her one thing.
"Well-." I begin "I enjoy running and painting, my favourite colour is pink-." Maybe that's why I dyed my hair that colour "and my favourite food is potato salad. I have a best friend named Luke and a dad named Daniel-." I pause, trying to think of anything else to tell Julia, but couldn't think of anything "and that's about it, I'm not that exciting." I finish off.
She smiles at me "that's lovely, what kind of paintings do you paint?."
"Mostly scenery, I'm hoping to learn on how to paint people, but as of now I just paint silhouettes." I answer before taking a bite of my blueberry pancakes and a sip of my orange juice. Julia goes to say something, but Mitchell stands up suddenly, interrupting his grandma. Both of us look to him confused.
"I need some fresh air-." Mitchell tells us "and I want Faye to come with me." He finishes, looking at me, but it isn't a question, it's a demand. I go to tell him that I'm alright here, but his eyes are telling me that if I don't come with him, there'll be consequences, so hesitantly I get from my chair and follow him outside. Immediately, I'm hit by the rays of the sun and people entering the place we just walked out of.
"Why did you want me to come with you?." I ask him when we were outside.
"You should of said no, why didn't you say no?." He asks, looking into my eyes.
I narrow my eyebrows "say no to what?."
He rolls his eyes at me "to coming to breakfast with us." He answers.
"Awww did I ruin your grandma and grandson bonding time?." I tease him.
He narrows his eyes at me with a smirk "well at least I know that my grandma is actually my grandma." He says and my heart breaks. I always knew he was a douchebag and a jerk and a prick, but I never thought that he'd snoop this low. My teasing smile is replaced with a frown.
"That was low, even for you." I tell him with a shake of my head "I'll be inside with your grandma when you're ready to come back." I say before turning around and walking back inside. I cross my arms against my chest and keep my head down; how can he say that? I may have hated him, but I never thought he'd do this, but than again he used my secret against me back to when this started, so why was it a surprise that it used against me now?
I just want to go back to when we hated each other.
