CHAPTER ELEVEN
———————————
For the past few days, I've ignored him. What he said at breakfast hit me and it hit me hard which is the reason I'm running with softly playing music flowing through my ears. My heart pounds louder and louder and I feel sweat rolling down my forehead and in places it shouldn't be.
I've been ignoring my dad too, I couldn't talk to him; I didn't know what to say. He's still my dad and he always will be, but after this we aren't going to go back to the way we used to be. I come to a small jog when I realise I'm close to home.
How did everything take a turn for the worst? This stupid secret I have started this whole thing, If I hadn't of screamed it out, none of this would have happened and I only have myself to blame.......and Mitchell of course, he could of left me alone or told everyone the secret, but he didn't and instead blackmailed me.
When I reach the pathway that leads to the front door, I stop for a moment and place my hands on my knees, taking a breather. Running is great in my opinion, it helps with my stress and clears my head for awhile, but I'll admit it's tiring and sometimes after a run I just want to sleep forever. I straighten up and remove my earbuds from my ears before walking down the pathway and up the small steps.
However, I stop when I see Mitchell standing outside my door. When he hears me form behind him, he turns around and scratches the back of his head. He looks nervous, I would laugh at him and tease him for being nervous, but I was still mad at what he said.
"Can I help you?." I ask him, getting straight to the point.
"I just wanted to say that I'm s-s-." He seems to have a hard time saying what he wants to say and that's beginning to annoy the heck out of me. All I want to do is go inside and have a shower. But of course Mitchell has to ruin everything once again.
"Spit it out Preston!." I exclaim at him.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry." He says quickly and takes a deep breath after doing so.
I raise my eyebrows and a smirk crosses my face, now this is something I'd gladly tease him about "did the big bad Mitchell Preston just apologise to little old me?." I ask and he rolls his eyes. Honestly, I didn't expect for him to apologise, I just needed a few days to myself to think about it. Him saying it was kind of a wake-up call to me.
"Don't flatter yourself, I only did it because I had to." He states.
I pinch his cheek "aww don't lie, we both know you care about me."
He hits away my hand "I regret apologising to you."
I chuckle "well wether you regret it or not, thank you; it meant a lot." I tell him honestly. I may hate him, but he apologised and that's something I never thought he'd do ever especially to me, the girl he hates, so if he can apologise than I can woman up and thank him "but I still hate you." I say, well I tried to be nice.
He smirks "don't worry princess, the month is almost over." He informs me, patting my head and it's my turn to hit away his hand.
"Thank goodness." I say with a breath of relief "well if that's all you come here for than I'm going to head inside and take a shower." I inform him. We say our goodbyes and while he's walking down the stairs and down the pathway, I unlock the door and head inside the empty house.
I can't believe I'm thinking this, but maybe Mitchell isn't as bad as I thought. Maybe he's an alright kind of guy, but as he said he was forced to apologise. I roll my eyes and head up the stairs to my room where I gather the clothes I need for my shoulder before heading into the bathroom. Do I have Mitchell all wrong? I think about that question for a moment before laughing at myself.
How can I be so idiotic? Of course I didn't have Mitchell all wrong. He was forced to apologise and if he wasn't, he wouldn't have apologised in the first place and that still makes him a jerk. I still hate him and that will never change, even if someone is holding a gun to my head and the only way for me to live is to like Mitchell.
I turn on the shower before waiting for it to become lukewarm and when it is, I strip down and hop into the shower allowing the soothing stream of water to cascade down my back. Only three weeks and a bit to go and than I'm free, nothing can happen within that time. Right?
No, of course not; I'm thinking too much.
