Chapter 5
D3AD_L0X
After the main lights faded out, I checked the time from the clock in my cell. It is 1 AM. The guards thought they powered me off, but no. I just went into sleep mode.
But anyways, I silently walked over to the doors and hacked into the system, sorting through the files quickly.
I open the door and sneaked out, cautious of any sound I heard or any extra pairs of shadows wandering around. In the few years I’ve been here, I’ve noticed the security patterns. There are the fewest patrols from 1 to 2 AM. I had 60 minutes to complete my mission.
It was rather easy getting to the main control room.
After tonight, I madea mental note – I would tell the Omega to improve their security. Sneaking around was way easier than blowing up a house.
But no.
Right after I make that note, I hear footsteps. Dangerously near.
Great. It’s only 1:03 and my objective is already in jeopardy.
If I was caught, I would be reset, with no doubt.
I can’t let that happen.
They would wipe all my memories, even the ones that were from my human life.
There’s no way I’ll let that happen.
All I need to do..is to see the info they’ve been hiding from me for so long.
No secret is safe.
I..I need to know what the Omega are trying to do; what their actual goals are.
I need to know the truth.
Ranting aside, I quickly run and cowered around the corner, praying that the human hadn’t seen me.
Man, I wish there was a computer near me…
I waited and listened for any more disturbances in the darkness, in the flickering lights.
But there was none.
As silent as the night, I quickly sprinted towards the door. I searched through my memory bank, trying to find the file that would allow me to open the doors. I eventually found it, and used it to open the door.
Sure enough, the metal door swiftly opened up for me.
But there were humans there. And they all looked at me, standing in the door way with my power button emitting a soft glow.
I freaked out and shut off the power.
The humans inside flipped out and started to yell, to call the security, saying that I had gone rogue.
I guess you could call me that. Still, it stuck in my mind.
Rogue.
Is that what I am?
No, I’m just doing the right thing.
I just…I just need to know the truth.
I marched right in, shoving anyone that was standing in my way.
Placing my hand on the computer screen, I tried to hack the system as fast as I could, but it’s kinda hard to do that when there are people screaming and trying to drag you away.
Still, I managed to take a few files and bolted out the door.
Sh*t…I was noticed. Just my luck..
Now I can’t go back to my cell.
I need to make a run for it..I just—
Wait a minute..
This seems so familiar to me..
Me, running away from pursuers.
My creators.
Am I..?
Oh sh*t..I can’t move..I can’t run.
D*mmit Ty, just run! You already went through with it! You can’t let them get you!
“Ty…don’t do this bro..”
Wait what was that?! That sounded a lot like—
No. It can’t be..
I looked around madly. He wasn’t there, just some people running towards me.
“Ty..why would you do that..?”
No..this is all a trick. He’s not here.
You have to run! Get a hold of yourself, Ty!
Just when I get my legs to start moving again, I feel a hand on my neck, and it presses my power button.
I try to scream out as the world around me fades to black, but all I can manage is a strangled yelp.
