Everything in life is strange. Most of the time they don't even make sense. Just like fear. You don't feel it until realization hits you. Or maybe you don't feel it until you end up in such circumstances that make you think that "Oh! So, I'm scared of this thing too."
Well, that's what happened to me.

With his hands messing up his hair and the grin making it obvious that he knew what might have been going on in my mind, he snapped his fingers.
After straightening his face again, he said, "Snap out of your day dreaming sessions. I don't have the whole day to waste on you."
"Right," I mumbled strictly to myself. "You probably have to go and kill someone."
"So, let's get back to business," Jackson chimed in. "You want to avenge your brother's death, and for that you need to kill Tim Parker. We want to recruit you so that our gang's stronger and also kill him. So, we can join hands and do it together— "
"But...... There's always a 'but' in these deals."
"Our gang is a family gang, either by blood or by adoption or by distant relations. And you aren't a part of our family," Blayze blurted out.
"I have two questions," I started.
"What?"
"One: I hope you're not getting me adopted by one of your gang members, are you?"
"No."
"Two: you're saying that you want to recruit me when I'm not a family member or whatever. You also killed a family member in front of me yesterday. How can you assure the safety of my life when I'm not even that?"
Both Jackson and Blayze share a look when Blayze indicated Jackson to speak.
"Don't worry; we can assure you your safety. And since our elders won't allow us recruiting you, we did find a way that you'll be safe AND accepted."
"That is.............?"
Jackson started looking uneasy as he shifted his weight. "You'll... have to marry boss."
The words stung me harder than I thought they would. What do they expect me to say? A big 'yes, I would love to'? Are they crazy?
My reaction was very simple.
"What!? Are you out of your mind? I'm seventeen! One, seven. Marrying someone might be the last thing my mind and marrying your crazy boss might not even be in it. That's not happening. Nope, never."
By that time, Jackson's facially expression looked deadpan and the other guy looked either like he'd faint any time soon or as if he wanted to run to his momma.
But, I didn't care much.
"Both of you! We're leaving! NOW." Blayze ordered and they obeyed without a word.
I let out a sigh of relief as they left, thinking that it was too easy. But, obviously, life was playing games with me.
Blayze left last and before he did, he gripped my arm so hard that I yelped.
"You are marrying me no matter how much you protest. You don't have a choice, you hear me. You have one week, pack up all what you want to take along, say goodbye to whoever you want to say, visit all the places you'll miss afterwards because you won't EVER be coming back here, understood?"
Without another word, he left and I stood in daze. I slowly walked to my bed and sat there. I brought my hands up and saw them shake.
For the first time, after many years, I felt scared.
Of what exactly? I don't know.
But I was and it felt terrible.
