It's been a few months now; our little group had increased by two more people. Apart from Aaron, Alex, Rex and me, we were joined by a pair of twins, Dustin and Austin. They had been babies when they were brought here, meaning that they had never seen a life outside of this hell-hole. They hadn't lived a life of freedom... but they knew it existed, that they never got to live it and that they deserved it.
It was my nineteenth birthday in two more days and Rex planned to throw me a party, but it wasn't just for me—it was a distraction.
We had it all planned, the final strike to get Greg out of the way. He had suspected my brother a few times but didn't take an action against him since he was important to Tim.
The plan was simple...ish.
"I've done it," Austin said, "Now, they're hidden a way that no one can find them."
"Are you sure? I mean, just for assurance sake, they're not visible until you know where they actually are, right?" Alex asked.
Alex had always been a precaution-ist—checking everything thoroughly, making sure that we don't make a mistake.Austin gave him a look, not liking people to expect mistakes from him. "No one. Can. See them."
The twins always hated to be corrected, always sure that what they did was always up to the mark, and it usually was."So, the cameras are set in his room," Rex acknowledged, "And now we wait for two more days and then enjoy my beloved sister's birthday, gangster style."
I smiled as Dustin wiggled his eyebrows at me, earning a head smack after an eye roll from Aaron.
Two days passed and everything is set. Aaron is busy with the rest of the gang, making them think our group is among them which I have no idea how he does.
In my room, I was waiting for the rest of the action to take place with Dustin who was busy looking through the computer, keeping an eye on his twin and Alex who had done to do what they were old.
*I'm through* we heard Alex through the walkie-talkie. Looking through the screen, we could see him enter into Tim Parker's office, shoving the bundles of papers, trying to find the one we need.
"It's in the second shelf, third file. The one Just below the safe." I said through the walkie-talkie to him.
He reached for the shelf, picking up the heavy load on top of the file.
"Tim's on his way, Alex. Hide." Justin informed him, his eyes glued on the other monitor that showed the hallway through which Tim was walking.
Grabbing the file, he hid himself behind the desk just as the door knob started moving.
I grabbed the walkie talkie. "Astrid to Austin, do you copy?"
*Yeah*
"Tim's in. It's your turn. Alex is hiding behind the office desk."
*Alright, I'm on my way*
There was a knock on his door: Austin. He entered after doing so and quickly made his way to the desk and sitting on Tim's chair.
Tim clearly seemed agitated by Austin's amused face as he slouched on his chair. "What do you want kid. I'm busy, get lost."
"I think you know very well what I'm here to talk about. Who are my biological parents?"
Tim snarled. This was the topic the twins often came to him to discuss. "Not this again. You need a life, kid."
"Yeah, the one that you stole from us. We need that one back."
"Shut it kid and get lost."
Austin stood up, his expressions remote as he walked towards the window. Tim's gaze followed him, his back turning towards the desk from where Alex emerged slowly.
"I often wondered if it was you. Maybe you could've been my father maybe that's why you saved us?"
Alex reached for the AC vent.
"Call your brother." I told Dustin who quickly grabbed his phone.
Alex had to jump up to get to the vent which would make noise so the only way to distract the noise was more of it, so we set Austin's ring tone to max volume and changed it to the trumpet's sound.
Once it started ringing, the noise echoed through the room, as Alex made his way up.
Seeing the he had left, Austin ignored the phone call with a snarl, acting as if he was annoyed. For he had to keep up the act.
*I'm up*
"So, we aren't done? Tell me, is it something like that? Otherwise I don't see a good reason why you wouldn't tell us who are parents are?"
Tim laughed his lungs out cold-heartedly. "You think you two pathetic kids are mine? Fuck it, the only kid I have is that Alexander whose just as useless as you two. And to say, I went through so much to get him."
I saw Austin's body stiffen just like my own did, as well as Dustin's. "He's... Alex's your son?"
"Astrid. . ." I heard Alex whimper from behind me. His hazel eyes were glazed with tears as he shook hard. Tears streamed his eyes uncontrollably as he looked at me with eyes that were telling me to prove that wrong.
But I had no words as Dustin immediately shut the monitor off, stopping us from hearing further discussions.
"Alex... it's not—" I started but couldn't finish as his body went limp in front of me.
"Astrid, you need to go quickly, "Dustin informed me when my eyes were fixated to Alex. "I'll take care of him. But the sooner you do this, the sooner Aaron can have a check on him."
He was right. I quickly grabbed the file and the walkie-talkie and ran but not before taking a quick glance at Alex.
Using a bobby pin to unlock Greg's door, I slipped in and placed the file in a very obvious place. Then I quickly got out and ran back to my room.
Alex was on my bed, Dustin and Austin close to the desk. "Did you delete the photo-age of our passing by?"
With a nod, he turned back to the monitor that showed Greg's room. Fifteen minutes later, Greg entered, his eyes landing on the file just as he did.
Expression laced with confusion, he grabbed it and flipped through the pages.
"Astrid to Rex, go inside. He's seen it."
*Got it*
Greg realized too late how important the file was, horrified for it being there.
"Hey, Greg. The party's starting, when are you—" Rex entered, then stopped himself from continuing as his eyes darted towards the file.
His face fumed with fake anger as he shouted something but Dustin closed the monitor, dusting his hands. "The deed is done."
We made our way to the hall where the party was taking place, acting like we were there from the beginning. A few minutes later, Rex joined us with a smile on his face.
Leaning down, he whispered in my ear. "He's gone. Tim's infuriated. Greg's a goner."
I felt heartless when I smiled at this piece of information.
